they did not. and his car never finished a single race untill the Championship race. so it was never Teched post race. he also had a "lab coat mechanic" there doing all his work. not sure what to make of all that.

I don't want to be the second-guesser here, but why the heck didn't someone protest? Why didn't they have a transportable dyno there on site and the cars get dyno'd after Q and after the race? Seems to me (outsider looking in and looking for education) that they should have had one there to really make sure the cars are legal. I'd have been chapped.

The first time the AS cars (regional only at that point) attended the IT/AS Festival in Kansas a car showed up from California that was stupidfast. Stupid illegal too...and promptly thrown out about 5 minutes after the hoods came up in impound (paper was ready to be filed and money was in hand, but the Tech team knew blatant illegality when they saw it). IIRC with only popping the hood there were more than a half-dozen violations visible! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Anyway, I'd be chapped if I built a nice legal car and went all the way there and felt that a cheater car won. With two 92's I've really thought about making one CMC so this is an interesting topic to me. I may be at mid-ohio to drive a Legacy car and I'll be sure and poke around and see what is what.

don't let this issue stop you. its very isolated.
they did have a dyno and used it for the 2 qual races. but since he made no more than 1 lap durring each of those, he was not impounded and not dyno'ed. as for post Championship impound - it was nothing more than weight and a visual inspection. there were a number of post race issues that was having to be addressed like a really botched start w/ no restart, passing under yellow, contact from the start and durring the race..... bla bla bla. there were also the tipical problems w/ rules interpretations you see when regions race together for the first time, like the legality of wheel spacers, rear spoilers, front spoilers, wheels sticking out of the fenders, cars w/ low vacuum at idle, incorrectly filled out dyno tech sheets.... bla bla bla. all of these issues have been addressed since then and are likely to not be a problem this year. Nationals 2006 was fullo f growing pains. i felt that this was part of that.
this guy who is the point of this tangent drives in the National Directors region. i'm sure these lessons have been learned by him and i don't expect to see these type of issues again.
as much as i would like to see me and Jeff B #1/2 in 2006, i think we were both surprised w/ being #2/3. lets see what happens this year. are we unhappy that it looks as though we were cheeted? sure, but hey, we moved on. we know that what we did was done 100% by the book.

....cheaters race....and racers cheat......its a fact of life.....been driving now 13 years....and working on race cars another 20 before that......this has ALWAYS been an issue....and always will.....

Personally, I don't, because I race for fun, and it is not worth all the headaches associated with hiding it. I will say THE WORST cheating I have seen, and this is pretty much universal....is in the "spec" and/or "drivers" classes (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) The infractions may be smaller because of the restrictions, but guys will look harder and do more little things to get that "driver's" edge....(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dunno.gif)

For example Spec Miata has been a mess....... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I didn't really think they'd want me in the shots. Never considered it since I don't tend to see pics of folks in other articles most of the time. I hate getting my picture taken (for obvious reasons), and really tried to get out of it. Oh well, I'll live. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well I'm ticked off with the issue. The writing for the autocross was very simplistic, the red 4th gen should have failed tech due to the hackjob battery hold down, and the green firebird with the crumpled hood was in CP with street tires on a hot sumer day and only made 1 run after he knew he was spotted by a reader. Both cars were WAY off the pace and the author is actually a mustang guy. He also failed to get one good shot of the other 2 f bodies there putting up a good fight! Bruce was there for one of the days as well. If you think it has to do something with permission to use someone's likeness, I'll find out if the tech crew gave him permission when I see them on Sunday. FYI, they're all mustang people... coincidence? In fact I recognize most of the faces shown in that article.

One issue with the article are the fact that they say you can get ride alongs with better drivers. During the driver's meeting it was clearly stated that the only way you can get 2 people in a car is if one is an instructor. Also, the comment about leaving and not being able to get back in isn't necessarily correct either. Granted Englishtown isn't the easiest place to get in and out of, but other events aren't like that. You don't even have to leave Englishtown since they have gas, food, and a very small parts store. If he did some more research it would be apparent that a bunch of clubs use stadium parking lots where you can come and go as you please.

However, I would have rave reviews if my car was at least shown in the background!

That`s great Glenn & Sam!
Sam, is that a trailer hitch on your ride?

Is that legal in your class? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
