Not my video, but thought I'd post a link here since it's an ITE Camaro. This track looks pretty scary from a run-off standpoint. Anyone here been on it?

Yeah, I've seen videos from my buddy Chuck up there in ITE on that track and I asked him the same thing......looks REALLY tight to me too..... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

That's my in car video from a race at Pacific Racways earlier this year. This road course was built in 1960 and although it has had many improvements during the last several years, it's still pretty close to it's original configuration and surface conditions. In 1960 there were hardly any trees around the track, but in 47 years the track became pretty heavily over grown. The owner has trimmed back a lot over the last few years, and it has made it seem less "tight". I don't really consider it that tight though, probably because it's my home track and I've become pretty confortable there. It's a pretty fun track though with great elevation change. There are pl

Kinda reminds me of the Nuerburgring but on a baby scale. Trees and trees and no runoff to speak of.

I'll take a bunny over a deer any day! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Funny you mention it though, but I just ran over another one a few weeks ago (not on the track). I really, really did try to avoid him...but when it happened this incident was the first thing that came to mind. Call me Buggs Magnet.

Yeah, I'm in the mood too dammit. I had a bunch of other problems this summer that kept putting the fun stuff to the back burner....but it's #2 on my list! I will get it done...before I qualify for Social Security, I promise!

Hey Jon, it's been a while! Yep, I got the 383 put together and installed early last year. I had TJ Wong tune it and we were able to get 392rwhp / 393rwtq, and that was with a bad coil. The engine made about as much as I was hoping for. I won my first ITE race with this combo right out of the box! There is still some time to be had at PR for my car. I'm hoping to get into the 1:33's or 1:32's with a little more practice. My ITE competition is getting faster every race. The only problem I have had is that I keep breaking rocker arm studs. I'm going to put in ARP studs this winter so hopefully that problem will be solved.

Do you have any plans to get out there with us and do some wheel-2-wheel ITE racing with your car? I hope so!

Oh I would like to and eventually will...but my plans keep getting pushed back and back; damn life keeps getting in the way. It was all I could do just to make it to a couple time trials this year (and even that was with a broken car) which is what I was planning several years ago. Right now I just can't justify gutting and caging the car knowing I might make one or two races a season with our work schedules. I like the car too much. So for a while longer I figure I'll try and just do the TT thing as time allows and keep the car streetable. It seems more sensible when I drive it to the track. I figure there's no sense in ripping it appart until I know I can actually get to the track for a full season of races. At 3720 lbs, it'd be tough to keep with you and Chuck and the gang even if I get my engine fixed and drive well. But I'll be damned if I'm going to spend 8 hours on the freeway in a day in August for a track day at PIR with no A/C or stereo!

FWIW, here's my video contribution from this season to compare: http://www.jonaadland.com/Videos/Pacific%20Raceways.wmv

That was on my street driven Nittos and I now know the engine was only making full compression in 3 cylinders (less power than my stock motor with a cam was making) when I ran that. If you put a stopwatch on it you can see how much time I was losing on the front and back straights. There was more time I left elsewhere, but talk about disappointing....

So Randy, that should tell you what #1 on the list is: Pull the motor, fix the motor, make sure the motor actually works.....etc. I'm pretty sure those missed shifts at the beginning of the first day I took it to the track bent a bunch of valves. Hopefully that's all. After doing the compression check it's amazing to me the thing was running at all.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Jon,

I should tell YOU that Chuck's car is for sale.....go buy it from him and beat it all day long! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif)

Too bad about the motor. Wasn't that a brand new Brett Beuer racing motor? That sucks! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

I know about motors that should not be running. I set my fastest lap ever at Laguna with a motor that had three cracked main caps and a couple of cracked cylinders.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) ....car ran "fine"! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Unfortunately this one wasn't running quite "fine" enough to do any record setting. The G2X told the story when I looked for it--it was only pulling a little over .5 g's in second gear after the mishap and over .6 before. Basically missing 50 lb-ft accross the board. That's one hell of a restrictor plate.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Yeah, that was the new motor. Never got to see what it could do. Hopefully the bottom end will be OK and the heads repairable. We'll see. Chuck's car would be a great way to go if I knew I'd have the time. But another car and a trailer I might use once or twice a year if I'm lucky is the last thing I need right now.

Me too! I've got the front fascia off, cut up, and I'm ready to order some 4130! I'm going to do brake ducts through the frame rails too.

Ah.....that'll do it! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif)

I did the same when I came out with my new motor this year.....must be like hitting golf balls in water traps huh? Difference was, my bullet proof Advanced Induction Solid Roller valve train kept me from ANY damage.....

....to the engine (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

The rear end didn't like that shock too much though and blew up shortly thereafter

Heh, I wouldn't recommend counting on that in the future. Mechanical overrevs of that sort can and will break stuff no matter who's name is on the valvecover. Consider yourself lucky.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool2.gif)

....oh it wasn't Advanced Induction who saved the day....rather the Xceldyne Components and NASCAR base PSI springs that saved the day....even the engine builder said those things are **practically** indestructible....

I did it a total of 4 times on two separate weekends....I dunno why I started doing it....and I have now STOPPED thankfully!

Damn Jon, sorry to hear about your engine. I hear ya, though. Life can certainly compete with the time we're able to dedicate to our sport. Gotta have priorities and balance. I was the same as you before I caged my car. It was still my commuter too. It wasn't until I started using a beater Ford Exploder for my commuter vehicle that I finally made the leap to a full cage. Until then, Solo1 was enough to keep me entertained and offered a lot of bang for the buck adrenaline before taking it to the next level. Even now, I only do as much as 4 or 5 races per year. Your car isn't so heavy. Mine weighs 3625 with my fat ass in the drivers seat. Why would you go all the way to PIR? Why not just do events at Bremerton and PR? BTW, your car sounds wicked, even with 3 bad cylinders!
