Damn Jon, sorry to hear about your engine. Thanks. Hopefully I won't find anything too terrible when I take it appart and I'll be back up and running without too much more pain. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) QUOTE Why would you go all the way to PIR? Why not just do events at Bremerton and PR? Because I love that track, that's all. No time trials I know of down there but I always want to try and make at least one track day a season down there if I can just because I like it so much. But it's a drive. For TT other than one weekend a year it's all Bremerton now I guess. I haven't run there yet but plan to next year. Don't have much of a choice if I want more than one TT weekend. QUOTE BTW, your car sounds wicked, even with 3 bad cylinders! Thanks! Too much of a good thing I'm afraid though, they measured me at 106 dB the first TT event at PR...so I needed to stick a cork in it for the next day. All I could do on such short notice was put my cats back on. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) For next year I think I'll have a turndown I can point away from the mic and maybe I'll stick one of those cone inserts in there to take the edge off. Running with cats sucks. This post has been edited by Jon A: Nov 14 2007, 09:12 AM |

....oh it wasn't Advanced Induction who saved the day.... I'll tell you what saved the day. See, with my giant-ass spoiler and UETA they just plant the rear so much harder it breaks the engine! You just didn't have enough traction! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) QUOTE rather the Xceldyne Components and NASCAR base PSI springs that saved the day.... Good stuff. PSI springs are great and Xceldyne...hey, a certain CC.com Moderator is an Engineer there so what do you expect? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Discounts available for non-AssClowns! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) As you know, I've always been a proponent of not skimping on the valvetrain. I'm glad I didn't or it could have been so much worse. I'll know more after taking it appart, but so far I'll I've found is a cracked pushrod. A 3/8" thick-ass walled Manton. It takes a hell of a lot of force to crack one of those! A lesser one would have folded like pretzal and parked me at the very least as would have a weaker rocker or stud...had a spring or retainer gone it could have easily taken the bottom end right there in a matter of seconds but all that stuff came through perfect. So I just kept driving like nothing had happend and even drove two more events. Nothing will be invincible but I think buying good stuff here is usually going to end up being a wise investment. Me too! I've got the front fascia off, cut up, and I'm ready to order some 4130! I'm going to do brake ducts through the frame rails too. Man, I'm sorry Dennis. I was really expecting to have all sorts of pics and tips on the front breather for you by now but shit happens. If this motor damage turns out to be minor and I get it fixed in the next few weeks, I promise that's my next project! Though I won't tell you to wait on me or it might never get done. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dunno.gif) I did do the brake ducts through the frame rails though and that rocks! No rubbing at full lock, no ground clearance loss and with the ducts I used holy crap did they work well! After a cooldown lap my front rotors were colder than the rear! I do have a pic or two of that I could dig up. |

I've got a folder full of pictures from a bunch of guys on here and my mechanic/racer/engineer buddy has some good ideas as well. For now I'm still trimming wires out of the fuse box and cleaning up stuff in the area. That's great news on the brake ducts. When I'm all converted over with a dzus clipped splitter on the front, the whole air dam, ducts, etc. will be nice to be gone. Pictures of your duct work would be appreciated! I'm glad to see you back on the board. No sweat about not having time!---I understand! I haven't been on here as much either lately after getting engaged in June. The last few years I did 15-18 track days and only 9 this year. Prepping a car, loading it on a trailer, etc., hauling 4-5 hours is wearing on both me and the wallet, although the time at the track is awesome. With buying a house next year and a wedding, I'm sure my track time will be reduced next year as well, but either way I think I have at least a few years left in this and I always wanted to do the front breather. With my front all SMASHED up.....I can redo a LOT and version 2.0 will be better that version 1.0 where I abandoned the brake ducts thru the rails because I already had the tube bumper in the way. And all my old pics are gone! |
