Couldn't determine if this was safety, or chassis.. Mods, do whatever you wish..
Anyway, my car has an optima red top in it, and it appears the front edge of the battery tray either broke off or was removed, so the battery isn't as secure as it'll need to be to pass tech... or my own tech for that matter. I would thinking of booty-fabbing a simple strap arrangement that would go from the core support down to the original battery hold down bolt.. Could make it from some 1/8" x 1" steel strap or something, but if someone has figured out a more elegant solution, I'm all ears! |

I did the strap arrangement you're talking about using a piece of 1/8" x 1.5" aluminum stock. It holds the battery securely enough that I can't move it at all once it's bolted down tight. The materials cost a couple bucks. That said I'm now going to a rear battery box setup... |

Interesting, I didn't think the aluminum would be enough to hold it without welding some reinforcements in the bends to prevent it from straightening out.. I only have a MIG welder for steel, which is why I was thinking mild steel, but if the Al will work.. 8 oz. weight savings! It has two 90-degree bends in it, one at the bottom where it bolts into the tray and one where it bolts into an existing hole in the top of the radiator support. It sure seems plenty strong, if I were to change anything it would be to add a crossbrace side to side, but the battery can't really move much with all the stuff up there anyway.
I've seen a lot of different race cars with the battery secured with aluminum stock straps, so I assumed it was strong enough. |
