Ah most of you guys are alright, and listen to some pretty good music. I was waiting for someone to talk about the new Clay Aiken tune or some Brittney Spears... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I usually listen to 350ci LT1 by GM. It was on one of their '94 albums. I'm, dreaming of buying their remix CD of it this fall called 350ci LT1 w/longtubes, !cat. It's on their non-emissions grunge album.

In reality I listen to just about everything. I listen to classic rock (sfr and qmf are our local stations) as well as some newer stuff.

Small sample:
ACDC
Metallica
Led Zepplin
Tom Petty
Eric Clapton/some cream
Hendrix
Bruce Springsteen
Ramstein (sp?) who doesn't know du hast?
Sound Garden
Evanescense
Hoobstank
Staind
Nickelback
Dirks Bently sp?
Garth Brooks
few other country artists
etc.
...
and many others that I cannot recall. Half of the stuff I listen to I don't even know the artist. Pretty much anything but rap.

Speaking of Dierks Bently,

Anybody seen the video for "My last Name"?

The dark haired guy that comes out of the movie theatre with the girl in the end? His name is Chris Baber and we grew up together in Owensboro, KY. We've been friends since he was 5 and I was 7 yrs old (22 years now). He also lives here in Nashville but just by coincidence. He's going to be in an upcoming Julie Roberts video as well that he just filmed last week.

He's trying to beef up his portfolio of modeling and acting and then go out to Hollywood trying to make it big.

Just thought that might be interesting to anyone who's seen the vid.

Mostly classic rock for me. I can't listen to rap, ever. I can handle country for a short time if it's a faster song.

Favorite bands: AC/DC, Van Halen/Van Hagar, Boston (1), Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rush, Pink Floyd, ZZ Top etc.
Favorite songs for racing: I can't drive 55, Highway to Hell, Red Barchetta, Highway Star
Favorite Oldie: Hot Rod Lincoln

I guess I'm not very diverse in my music taste.

funny thing, I am actualy faster with the amp and sub in the back of my car. I guess a little more weight = a little more traction = able to get back on the throttle faster. as if it isn't funny enough that i am ran CP last year, with the back seats still in the car, but i was also the only guy in the staging lanes, that could hit the bass. I think a lot of us "step off" with the music we grew up with and don't keep up with the "new stuff" after a certain point...

I used to work for a music distributor back in the 80s and was very involved with the music scene, going to concerts, listening to promotional materials, marketing, etc. I was put in charge of CDs when they first came out. There were only about 10 titles initially because there were only two plants making them. "Record" store owners were less than excited about getting them too, as the profit margin on them compared to vinyl was very small. One of the first titles was "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd. Also one of my faves! It took a long time for CDs to be as extensive in catalog as vinyl, however, CDs emerged a very strong victor in that battle with much lower costs (many CD plants were built) than vinyl.

I used my priviledges in getting promotional CDs and the opportunity to buy them wholesale to build a large CD collection. I see many of my faves listed!!!

Van Halen esp. Running with the Devil
Sammy Hagar (don't like Van Hagar as much as either separately), Bad Motor Scooter, I Can't Drive 55, Trans-Am.
Heart
Led Zeppelin
Peter Gabriel
Santana (esp. Abraxas and the one he did with collaborations recently)
Stone Temple Pilots
Metallica esp. Enter Sandman
Beach Boys - lots o car songs there. My first vinyl album was Endless Summer
Jefferson Airplane - some Starship
Janis Joplin
Jimi Hendrix
Beatles
ZZ Top (also saw Afterburner tour!)
and lots more this genres

Less mainstream
Robert Cray
Pat Metheny

I have an XM Radio with my Duramax Diesel, listen to TopTracks on there. I also like stations that play "Old School R&B."

Julie, I have been considering one of these for my GMC. What model did you get, and do you like it?

Thanks,

I know you asked Julie, but I've got an XM in my wife's car. We got the Roadie package. It is a smaller main unit, that includes an antenae, headphone jack style audio out, and car adapter. It also had a free certificate for a home hookup (extra antenae, cable with wall plug, and stand). The only thing that you will really want to watch out for is how it will connect to your radio. Fortunately, my wife's car has an aftermarket unit with A/V-in cables (vor DVD player). We were able to get a Radio Shack brand RCA-to-headphone wire and hook it straight in. I installed it all myself in about 30 minutes, including routing the cable to the rear of an SUV under carpet and behind body panels. I think that this package comes with a tape deck adapter. Or, you can get a little FM modulator that sends an FM signal to your radio.

There is also an XM radio unit that is a little larger, with the same car hardware, but hooks directly into a "boombox" style speaker for the home. It costs about $10 less, but the boombox is $100 and is not included.

Check around on the internet. There is a place that makes a direct adapter that hooks up behind a stock GM radio and will accept RCA cables. It is like $69 though. But, then you can plug in an MP3 player or anything else with RCA jacks.

Favorite music to work on the car by:  The Doors

Yep, The Doors are what you'll hear in my garage while working on the cars. Jim Morrison bellowing out "Road House Blues," "Riders on the Storm," or even "Peace Frog" keeps me turning the wrenches. "Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel" has always been good advice, and "Let it roll baby roll." Too bad he trashed more expensive cars than most of us will ever own.

But when I'm racing, the only music I listen to is a high-revin' LS1!

I have this one and it's a delphi unit. It's the only XM unit that recieves any commercial time.

I LOVE it, But it does mount funny. In our 97 pickup I had to mount it on the dash on the other side of the cup holders. So when your using the cup holders you can't see the display.

I also have the Boombox and use it everytime I'm in the garage. You just disconnect the XM unit from the car's base, and plug it into the boom box.

Just listened to "Southern Culture On The Skids" Dirt Track Date.

Probably the best CD I've heard in a LONG time

They had a song on the radio a about 7 years ago called walk like a camel.

Also like Chris Isaak, Jimmy Buffet, Roy Orbison, Aerosmith.

My list of hates....
Puff Daddy.
Van Halen (!!!!!!)
Rush
Stones

I would rather have my finger nails pulled with pliers than listen to Van Halen. It's the only group I turn EVERY time.

And the Stones are THE MOST OVERRATED BAND OF ALL TIME.

My all time favorite.

Alan Jackson.
If you can't get into his country music you got issues. Even folks who aren't into country dig Alan Jackson.

I think ZZ Top's "Arrested for Driving while Blind" may describe my last autocross performance (minus the Wild Turkey).

Maybe it should be pushed for "anthem status".

Dream Theater is my favorite band. But I like most of the stuff that has been posted.

I also enjoy the note of a big cammed LS1 through a cutout under the seats!

Randy, I assume I have the Delphi unit, it came with the truck. Funny, when I bought the truck I convinced myself there was NO WAY I'd pay for radio. I'm payin' for radio! Love the XM!!!!

Speaking of car related tunes...... "Oh Lord, won't ya buy me a Mercedes Benz, my friends all have Porsches, I must make amends....... Janis Joplin.

The Doors! Of course. Morrison Hotel baby!
