For those that have the 36mm offset ZR1 wheels could you please do me a big favor, I need to see how much room if any there is between the stoptech brake caliper and the back of the spoke on these wheels by using this fitmitment guide from Stoptech?
http://www.stoptech.com/wheelfitchart/PDF/camaro.pdf I contacted AFS and they basically told me they wouldn't check. Said they built them to clear the stock calipers, duh no kidding. I even sent the exact link above to tell me if they would fit and said they would not be able to tell for me (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I would really appreciate it very much if someone could do this for me!!! I'd even send a few bucks your way for doing this as well (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I got the exact setup you need to check, but i'm a mechanical moron, so you gotta give me a picture or something on what I am looking for. Pictures with arrows are best (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Pictures with arrows are best (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I basically need to have you go to stoptech's website the link that I provided above. Its in a PDF format. Print it out and cut it naturally on the outer lines of the diagram and then take that diagram and place it onto the 36mm offset wheel in the appropriate locations. Basically you center the cut out diagram onto the back of the wheel hub. So it looks like its the actual caliper and rotor(Half of it anyways) actually inside the wheel but in a paper format of course (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) And just move the diagram around inside the wheel to make sure or see if it makes contact with any of the spokes or clears everything. If so how much room estimated do you think there is. If you need some more detailed info let me know and I can send some pics of of what I mean. I really appreciate this if you can do it. Thanks Josh |

Yes all I want is to test the front 9.5's 36mm offset with this cut out diagram (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
Thanks |

Yes. Sticking that hub center piece in the middle gives you more than the 2mm required clearance by the StopTech's, according to the 9.5x36mm I have sitting in my room.
Hope this helps (I'd get someone else to check too, though). Dan [EDIT] Erm. Um. didn't notice hashed areas...cutting them now. OK. Having cut out the hashed areas... it'd be really close. It's hard to tell, because to fit the indent in the lug hole puts the caliper measurement in a hollow of the vane, so it's hard to get both working at once. But in addition, there's that pointy thing right above the lug hole extension, and that is clearly hitting the hub of the wheel. So if that's accurate... then no, the inside of the caliper will hit the wheel. You'd need a bit of a spacer. Sorry dude (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) [/EDIT] [EDIT 2]In this image from StopTech's site: (IMG:http://www.stoptech.com/wheelfitchart/instructions/temp1.jpg) They haven't cut out the lug spacer thingie - you can see how that rectangle is sitting right next to a lug hole. So what's the proper method? Let me know, and I can get you a proper measurement.[/EDIT 2] |

I didn't realize they had this write up they must just put it up. But yes just like what the website states is the exact procedure as well as the correct cutting areas of that diagram. Just got to make sure that its centered properly within the wheel hub. Just check the closer point mainly like the edges of the spoke where it'll be the closest. If not you can just send me a wheel and I'll test fit it for sure (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) I really appreciate you taking the time to do this or anyone else that checks it (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) Thanks Josh |

I'll probably have one or more wheels off the car tomorrow for one reason or another. I'll see what I can do.

From their pictures, it looks like the hashed area is the cross section of the rotor's hat and shouldn't be cut out. Without it being cut out, I found nearly 1/2" of clearance with my 9.5" 38mm offset AFS wheels.
(IMG:http://www.jonaadland.com/NewPics3/StopTechClearance.JPG) The pic isn't very good, but if I had put a scale in there you'd see tons of clearance on the 9.5's. With the 36.5mm 11's, you have exactly twelve feet of clearance. |

Using a spent Bud package has probably thrown the scale off ... the 12' of clearance was a clue.

Jon your too kind man, thanks so much!!!! I guess I will be selling my stock wheels for some ZR1's now (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
The only other question I have is can I run a 38mm offset in the rear 17x9.5 of course (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Without rubbing the outerlip of the fender (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Cause I'd like to be able to rotate these as much as I can w/o any issues. |

I have been for a few months now with zero rubbing--and I'm using a small spacer in the back! During body roll/steep driveway angles, etc the tire is nowhere close to the outer fender lip. It would only be close in pure two-wheeled compression but there's still a little clearance: (IMG:http://www.jonaadland.com/NewPics3/Weelsr3.JPG) |

Sorry, Darkhalf, that I haven't gotten back to you sooner. Jon, good interpretation of the cross-hatched area - I suppose that's why it fits so well in the lug-hole, because that's where the studs go through the rotor. In that case, my first measurement stands, like Jon's - they fit great!
Also, the 38's fit on the back without a spacer as well, as I used them in my last two autocrosses (rod-ended panhard for proper location...) with absolutely no rubbing. Enjoy the new rims/brakes when you get them! (*drools over StopTech*) |

Actually I already have the Stoptechs on (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I guess I better make a phone call to AFS for a set of those, unless anybody else has a recommended place they would prefer to buy from? |

Got mine on Ebay. It's sort of a hassle, but you can save some money that way.

I got both sets of my AFS wheels on ebay, but lately it seems harder to get a good deal on them.
