About 5 months ago, my mother was diagnosed with Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The news was especially difficult for my family to accept. I remember thinking that it was a bad dream, and was wondering when I would awake from it. I soon realized that it was not a dream, and it was in fact a reality. Once the reality had sunk in, I knew a couple of things. I knew that I loved my mom very much, I was frightened about the thought of losing her. I knew that I needed to be strong to support her and to help keep her spirits high. Lastly, I knew that I wanted to do as much as physically possible to help find a cure. From the very beginning, my mom was exceptionally strong and very determined to beat it. Her courage and determination became my inspiration to do something to make a difference. To date, my mom has been doing pretty well with treatments. She has had her share of challenges along the way, but overall she is taking steps in the right direction and we look forward to the day when she can be free from cancer. My goal is to raise as much money as possible towards this cause, and to hopefully make a difference.
Hike For Discovery is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's adventure fundraising program that prepares people to experience a natural wonder in a special way. While I'm training, I am raising funds to help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. More than 712,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. Your support of my participation in Hike For Discovery will help bring them hope and support. Please make a donation to support my participation in Hike For Discovery and help advance the mission of LLS.
