Thought some of you might find this interesting. Got this car from a friend's brother. He did some furnace repair and it was offered to him at payment for the work. The car's owner passed away and his daughter ended up with the car and it sat outside under a tree beside a lake for 2 years. I initially looked at the car as a parts car for my dad's 88 Camaro project. But when I went to look at it, it seemed too nice to part out. So I snagged it for $950 and started to work. I have fixed a few small holes in the floor, replaced the ailing automatic trans with a T5 (best thing I've done to the car automatics SUCK) and cleaned the car up. I also replaced a few fuel and brake lines, fuel pump and filter, and a few other small items. My Dad helped me re-paint the decklid and I got rid of the wale tail spoiler that I don't much care for. The only snafu at this point is that the engine makes some intermittent knocking sounds. It runs perfect otherwise with great oil pressure (30psi at 1500rpm) and doesnt smoke and has good power, I'm wondering at this point if it has a lifter sticking in the bore. I'm going to do another oil change tomorrow and do 4qts of oil and 1qt of ATF and see if it frees up. Anyway, here are some before, during and after shots. I love these cars!

Holy shit, nice find. I love 91-92s with the ground effects package. I had a '91 GTA after high school and I want another in the future. I can't believe you took off the spoiler though, that completes the look!

I'd put the spoiler back. Or, get one from an '87 and up Trans Am or Formula. I liked it better anyway.

Neat project. Always liked those. I miss my '89 Formula (my favorite body style).

Scwheet! +three on the spoiler! Somewhere in the bowels of Blaine Fabrication lurks a metallic blue '91 Formula....

Nice work on the undercoating. That's the first thing I did to mine. Thankfully there wasn't even any surface rust (a Tennessee car) when I started. What did you use on yours? POR15? What are the final plans for it?

Yes, I used POR15 after I repaired the rust and thoroughly cleaned the underside of the car. It should be good to go for many years now.

My plans for the car are quiet, comfortable, reliable daily driver. I also do my own tuning, and I'm gunning for 30mpg with this car. My IROC is a blast, but I thought it would be nice to have a stocker again too, and I couldn't bring myself to let the car slide by.

I hear all of you on the spoiler and I appreciate the input. I do think however that if you could see the car in person, you might be a little more open to the idea. personally I don't like the 91-92 spoiler, it is too gaudy. If I put a spoiler back on it will be the 85-90 Trans Am style, or it will be the two pedastal Firebird style. The plan is to eventually re-paint the car. Factory color but I'm going to put a silver thirdgen bird on the hood, as well as new 91-92 style graphics like it has. I also have a set of '02 WS6 speedline wheels that will go on once they are straightened and re-polished.

Great work, and I'm in the minority of liking it better without the spoiler. Well done.
