I think it's stupid. They are taking a car that is styled like a 1st gen and hanging all the 2nd gen stuff on it and thats just wrong. I'd like the car better if it was dressed up like a '69 Trans am with the fixed twin scoops and pedastal rear wing. The arctic white and lucerne blue paint can stay. The shaker hood, duck tail spoiler, and honey comb wheels belong on a 70 or 71 which is a completely different body style.

Here is the difference....

you can tell a body shop put the front end of a 2nd gen firebird on a much bigger bodied '10 camaro. did ligenfelter pick up the parts from pep boys?

how about reshaping/molding a front end to resemble the 2nd gen front end without actually putting a 2nd gen front end on. tell lingenfelter to stay in the engine bay and then ship the car to chip foose

I have seen other renderings of a second-gen T/A on the current chassis, and that looks much better than the actual 2010 Camaro. I could get over the "Porky the Pig" weight problem if the body and interior looked better.

I'm not too fond of the front end of it but the rest of it is great!

All else being equal, I'd take the 'bird. I had 2 second gen T/A's, so I'm a bit partial.

Wouldn't it be cool if someone came out with a modern muscle car bodykit? As opposed to the current Camaro that is fugly as sin imho. Why do V8, rwd cars from the big three have to look retro? This fad is really getting old.

Personally, I like this attempt much better. -> http://www.2002firehawk-c26.net/HeritageFBody.html
Interior is a bit much for me, but I liked the overall package. The Penske Camaro was pretty cool too.

I saw the LPE car at SEMA. It looks even more big and bulky than the Camaro.

I'm dissapointed in the 5th gen, and to a much greater degree Government Motors in general. I'll be shopping for Fords if I ever buy a new vehicle...

I agree. The GM anti Challenger hype was all about how big and heavy it was and then they turn around and come out with a car that is the same way but doesn't ride as nice. The handling feels uninspired and vague like they decided to err on the side of boredom (think stock '05 Mustang GT) and they made an interior that looks like it was stolen from a b-movie spaceship. The only thing the new Camaro really has going for it after riding and driving in one I would say is the seats, they are probably the best combination of support and comfort of any seats GM has ever put in anything from the factory, Corvette included.

I am planning to buy a new car next year(2011) and right now I have to admit a 5.0 Mustang is at the top of the short list.

The 2010 Mustang looks sleeker and sexier than the plump Camaro.

It's not a light-weight either.

Here's a better rendition of the updated TA - http://www.transamdepot.com/phoenix-trans-am.cfm

If only they would finish the look with the interior by stretching the guages across like a TA should be. I never liked the guages on the gen 1 Camaro and still don't like them on the gen 5.
