Since I can't post a WTB ad in the classifieds (?!) please keep me in mind for your old autocross tires and unwanted other parts that may be collecting dust in your garages. Matt You can post there now. WTB ads are no problem, just ask and I'll update your account (which I already did). |

I met up with forum member NJSpeeder this morning and picked up some used SS rims and a race seat on the cheap. He laid some F Body wisdom on me and proved to be a gentleman through and through. I also met up with a fellow who runs a CMC Mustang and picked up some decent 275 series Hankook R-Comps. Since the car is finally freed from it's snowy parking spot I figured I'd post up some pics.
Not too bad looking for less than a grand. (IMG:http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hrdlydangerous/Grassroots%20Challenge%20Trans%20Am/junkcars056.jpg) Unfortunately it chooses its own gears. Yes that's the intake elbow on the console. "R" Racing floor mats add like 50 hp's 'yo. (IMG:http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hrdlydangerous/Grassroots%20Challenge%20Trans%20Am/junkcars061.jpg) Oops! There's a chink in the armor! (IMG:http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hrdlydangerous/Grassroots%20Challenge%20Trans%20Am/junkcars058.jpg) If only I could get him to mount them... (IMG:http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hrdlydangerous/Grassroots%20Challenge%20Trans%20Am/junkcars049.jpg) ...on these (IMG:http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/hrdlydangerous/Grassroots%20Challenge%20Trans%20Am/junkcars046.jpg) This post has been edited by hrdlydangerous: Mar 6 2010, 02:21 AM |

The 18x10.5"vette wheels can be found cheap if you look long enough and get a little lucky. I have 2 rear C5 ZO6 Speedline wheels, 1 front Speedlibe wheel, and two half worn 265/40/17 Eagle F1 tires for $250, and I got 2 aftermarket rear C5 ZO6 wheels for $100. Assuming I can sell the pair of tires for atleast $150 and the front wheel for atleast $100, I'll have a complete set of 18x10.5 wheels for $100! Then if you figure in the cost of me selling my 2 sets of IROC wheels, I'll be well in the negative dollar amount.
I got my deals by checking LS1tech and Craigslist ~twice a day for about 3 weeks. Good luck with the build and keep us posted on parts you need or just progress you make. I'd love to compete in this someday but the events are half way across the country. Maybe I'll do it by like 2020 or something. lol |

Maybe I'll do it by like 2020 or something. lol they never leave florida for some reason I thought they had it going on in California too, no? From all the searching I've done on in any classified section, the best times to look are ~7-8am and ~8-9pm. That seems to be when everyone is done posting their stuff for sale so you can see all the new ads before most others. |

It was good to meet you, glad you like and can use the wheels. Like I told you, they were ust a set of dirty old roll arounds for me.
Let me know if you have any questions or need anything else. I will keep an eye out on the parts pile(which you can only see a small percentage of in the packed garage) and let you know if I find anything else that may be useful. -Tim |

It's been a while since I posted anything and I figured I'd give everyone an update. First the bad news... this project is moving along S L O W L Y. At the pace I'm going the $2011 Challenge looks more like reality. Now keep in mind I'm not complaining because my wife and I are expecting to bring child #2 into this world within a month. I knew this child was coming but I figured I could juggle responsibilities. Wrong!
The good news (aside from my soon -to -be-here baby) is that I'm getting a lot of seat time in the car at local autocrosses and accumulating parts from a lot of different sources. To date I've gotten... A set of 17x9 SS rims and a race seat for $50 (from NJ Speeder) A used Strano 35mm bar for $75 including mounts Twelve (yes twelve) used Hoosier R-Comps from a local Corvette racer for FREE! ( I owe him a cigar) A set of KYB AGX shocks for $100 An adjustable panhard bar for $50 A pair of free 15" alloy wheels for my drag slicks that were attached to a free S-10 Blazer that I drug out of a local woman's driveway and onto my trailer. The truck had a blown trans and her son left it there to rot. She gave it to me in return for removing an eyesore. ( scrap prices are down BTW (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ) Two used Opti -Sparks for $50. The opti's were instrumental in getting the car running and I can sell one off to lessen my budget hit. I've begun the process of adding lightness to the car as well. So far I've removed the front bumper support and fog lights, headlight motors and mechanisms, ( I fabbed some tabs to mount the headlight doors so it looks like it still has headlights) A/C compressor and condenser, rear view mirrors and fender liners. That's just the tip of the iceberg but I've already removed almost 100 pounds. I'll try to remember to take some photos to post here. Until then, here's a shot of it's autocross debut when it was still eligible to run in stock class. Gotta love an oem suspension with 100+ thousand miles on it. Look at that body roll... I'm glad you're having fun with it. I have its twin in white and yes before I did any suspensions mods the body roll was horrible but it was still fun. Here it is in stock form back in 2003.
