I am going to have to raise the (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/bs.gif) flag on that. To me it looks like the picture is chopped.

There must be a bump in the pavement involved or something. Big time braking grip, sure. But I've never seen ANY car do that without help.

Assumptions:
110" wheel base 18" CG height 50/50 weight distribution That would require 3.06 G's to lift the rear wheels off the ground from pure braking forces. There doesn't appear to be any significant 'speed bump' to help the situation out. There doesn't appear to be anything special with the car (12" slicks on the front, significant weight reduction in the rear, significant down force in the front). Unless the concrete is exceptionally rough and grippy, I say this myth is busted. |

Stan,
I don't remember the spec, but I'd bet the Vette is closer to a 100" wheelbase (give or take an inch or so). Even so, I'd say there has to be a bump out of frame and the chassis is upset (or it's a fake). |

I've done professional Photoshopping for over 10 years. I see no evidence of manipulation, but of course this web-res image might be scaled down and conceal any artifacts. There's also no camera meta data to look at, it seems.
My personal opinion is there's a decent bump out of the picture and this photo was really lucky timing just before the rear landed. You can see the front suspension is pretty well compressed, the rear is drooping a bit. Since the wheels are totally sharp the shutter speed had to be really fast like 1/1000 sec or faster. The surface of that lot, from the little I can see, looks like it's not super smooth, I'd bet there are a good number of bumps or paved-over repair strips. My 2 cents. |

There even appears to be a shadow under the car. He is definetly airborne. Just do not know how. It would be cool if there was a slide show from beginning to end

There's a lot at Candlestick that has a long hump from a culvert that crosses it - it gets interesting when they set up a slalom on top of the hump. I can imagine that launching off of it or a similar feature at the right angle/speed would get this result.
FWIW, it looks like the car is off course. |

Another one. Supposedly, this one is at the DC Pro tour. There is a bump in the lot that probably caused this.
(IMG:http://scca.com/ImageLibrary/Master/1537.jpg) BTW - could the Vette be rear brake hop? I've been told that Oh, and I have no idea where that original Vette pic came from. A friend sent it to me. This post has been edited by 00 Trans Ram: Jul 15 2010, 06:39 PM |

Stan, I don't remember the spec, but I'd bet the Vette is closer to a 100" wheelbase (give or take an inch or so). We're both wrong. 104.5" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C5_Corvette |

"Give or take 4.5" or so?"
I was sure it wasn't 110, but I was too lazy to look it up. I am a bit surprised it's not a little shorter (101, etc). Interesting. |
