The thing is that if you do the math your car does not need a 315 tire. I sat down with Larry Pond (raced with Bob Bondurant and Carol Shelby) and we did the math, based on the weight of the cars, contact patch, and the speeds we run in Arizona a 255 tire would keep the proper heat in the tire. At 275 I can keep about 185 degrees which is on the low side of the tire rating, 315 would be even cooler. ASA Truck series runs a 10.5 inch tire on a full tube frame chasis so that is something to think about. So the long and short of it is that the size of your tire should be based on the proper heat range to excite the tire compound, not necessarily bigger is better... While I agree that bigger is not always better, and you need to make the tires work perfectly for maximum performance, what car would need 315's if a full weight f-body doesn't? With 2 passengers that's close to 4,000 lbs. Plenty of cars come from the factory with less weight and larger tires than an f-body, like a Z06 or a 911 GT3, and I refuse to believe the engineers put those on for shits and giggles. The ASA trucks run a spec tire, don't they? I bet they would run a larger tire if they had the option, especially on the right front. Good points guys. The issue IMHO is if you are gonna have all this issue working out clearances...put it on, hammer this roll that, drive (RUBS), hammer more, cut this, drive (RUBS), repeat etc. Is the damage to the car and the hassle in all that really going to produce supeior lap times? versus installing say the 295/35 and while you "might" have to clearance some in the rear, should fit pretty much guaranteed. While Asthetics matter, IMHO a combination of Asthetics, Performance and ride all have to be considered..at least for the intended us of my car. I agree I don't know why companies would put out OE stuff that is huge, if they didn't find performance benefit...Look at the new ZL1...IIRC its tires really aren't that big for the 4100lb weight and performance category of the car. |

That car should have MUCH MUCH wider wheels/tires on it, with 18" MAX diameter wheels!! They could have fit ALL the brake it needs under the right offset/backspace/'stepped' wheels. Because it looks cool, thats why they do it, and the general public has fallen into the "super size me" mode. If you want to drop $350 a tire for every 4 events have at it, just saying that I would be on your bumper and passing you with a smaller tire at the right tire temp, cars equal. Easy enough to check, get the car on the track, and let us know the results!
Enjoy! |

It's too bad, because I like how it looks, love the LS3, and like the price. |

If I were ever to own one, it would have to be with unlimited resources (spelled COIN!!!), in order to strip EVERY gram I could off of it with prohibitively exorbitant lightweight parts made of; carbon fiber/kevlar, titanium, aluminum, unobtanium, etc. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (As well as a budget for Pedders/Moton/Penske suspension pieces, and 17" or 18" CCW/Fikse/HRE/etc. wheels and race rubber!!) |

If Chevy does what they are suppose to the 2016 rendition should be a keeper...lower curb weight, room for a small block V8, IRS, and great build quality. I'm saving already! |

I haven't heard about this. Do you have any more info? |

They were rumored to be considering the platform of the new, smallest Caddy as the basis for the 6th gen f body, but I have not heard anything confirmed/definite yet. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dunno.gif)
If they could do this, and then offer a REAL 1LE/stripped/FULL delete/'body in white' type option, along with that (proposed for the C7, but not solid yet either) 5.5 screamer Gen 5 (?) LSwhatever engine, it would be one GREAT package for our uses!! Yes more aggressive for sure, a set of rotors per pads is about right, but the stock (no holes or slots) rotors for the Corvette C6 setup can be had at Rockauto for a whopping $20 a piece, good trade off for the decreased braking zone. I can make up a bunch of time on corner entry with these pads and it rattles the competition when you close in on them on the turns...

They have GOT TO BE 'Sino-cast' rotors for that price, even on Rock Auto, no?! |
