I've got 3 new Setrab tube coolers, they have never been installed. These are coolant to oil heat exchangers and work extremely well. I've used the largest model (TOC-300) of this product line in several 4th gen cars - CMC, AI, AIX and SU, including Ken Kurtz monster 650rwhp LS3 TA.
The tube cooler is plumbed in line with the radiator cool side hose, no need for bulky ductwork or fans. I can fab a bracket that mounts the cooler parallel to the front swaybar. I've got 2 of the TOC-200, and 1 of the TOC-150. They appear to be out of production, the only hit that Google returns is a price list from Baker Precision, they charged $343 for the 200 and $331 for the 150. http://bakerprecision.com/setrab1.htm I'll let them go for The optional M22 to -12AN adapters (I've got 8 of them) are $9ea - other sizes are available from Improved Racing. Alan, how well would you think this works on a DD/Autocross car that can see ambient temps between 40* to 95*? Meaning would this be TOO efficient?
I assume this would be best with a inline thermostat similar to the Mocal you are selling as well. I like the idea of mounting this on the radiator support. Plumb one side from the radiator cold outlet at bottom conrer of radiator then outlet of this right to the WP thermostat. EDIT: Using one of these with no external thermostat may be better to heat the oil when it's cold and keep oil cool when it's hot out? This post has been edited by Smitty2919: Aug 9 2016, 03:39 PM |

There is no need for a thermostat when using a coolant to oil heat exchanger. Helps the oil warm up on cold days, regulates the temp on hot days.

Will these work with the stock radiator or will it overwhelming and cause water temp problems?

EDIT: Using one of these with no external thermostat may be better to heat the oil when it's cold and keep oil cool when it's hot out? For your use, I would first try it without an oil thermostat, but put an OEM/180F coolant thermostat back into the water pump. Lightly loaded like on a freeway cruise, it will keep the oil temp very close to the coolant temp, and 160 is too cool for oil. 160 is too cool for coolant, too - you'll get better mileage and response at 180+. The mount I am describing and pictured uses a swaybar mount fastener on each end, so it is rear of the bottom of the radiator by 8-10". Plenty of space there for the tube cooler, remote oil filter mount, PS cooler, etc. |

In general I agree, unless you have a situation where the coolant gets too cool and over cools the oil. Proper choice of coolant thermostat and maybe fan control is key. |

Will these work with the stock radiator or will it overwhelming and cause water temp problems? I used the larger Setrab TOC300 on my AIX/ITE 94 Camaro with a 373rwhp LT1, stock radiator. I was SFRSCCA ITE champ in 2003, won 5 races that year, several at Thunderhill in 105F heat, never had cooling problems. It was a front breather with the radiator air inlet duct sealed, and nothing restricting airflow to the radiator (ie no AC condenser or other BS) This post has been edited by Blainefab: Aug 10 2016, 04:42 AM |
