I almost failed tech since my front bearings had a little slop (thirdgen). I decided run the event anyway since they didn't even have 1000 miles on them and because I didn't have any bearings or cotter pins with me. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) Also, this isn't a daily driver so I guess I wasn't too worried. I know... I know... I still should have checked them, but they were fine.
I'm sure those of us who have trailers bring extra everything, but what are some of the more common parts you tend to bring with you? I keep some spare wire with crimps and 2 extra computers with eproms in the car, but that's it. |

Why do you bring 2 spare computers? That's not a spare I'd think to bring.

I did a TPI swap on my previous thirdgen, it used to be carbed. I 'thought' the computer went bad so I picked up a cheap 1 at a junkyard. So at that time I kept 1 spare, I actually needed it to get home once! Rewiring one of these cars is a mess. After that car was wrecked I bought an original TPI car... so that means I have 2 spares. I also do alot of tunning to them so you never really know when a chip will go bad, static will do a number on them too.

Wow Lonnie, are you guys really going to bring your newborn to the autox event? You have more guts than me. I'd never be able to concentrate on doing well in a race if I had my son along, and he's 18 months old now. It would wear my wife out too to watch him for an all day autox event. He already loves cars and I know he'd be running all over the parking lot pointing at everything.

....ANYTHING I can....when I had the Datsun...I had so many spares...and I brought 'em all...2 tranny's, 1 extra rear end, spare distributor, electronic ign....etc.
For the Camaro, the list is smaller, just because I haven't had the thing 10 years to accumulate them....but what I have now... fuel pump water pump (used) opti (used) rocker arms (stock) pushrods (stock) both "old" front hubs wheels/tires (complete set) torque arm (stlightly bent but will work) stock/modified rear LCA's lug nuts spare studs front and rear brake pads (used but would "get me by") serpentine belt and a TON of tools and nuts and bolts and misc hardware NOW YOU KNOW WHY I NEED AN ENCLOSED TRAILER (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I would LIKE to have a spare PCM and tranny as well....and lots of other things.... :drive: |

I will do my best to have an enclosed trailer next year also. I'd like to roll my toolbox into the trailer, along with my generator and air compressor. I'm usually by myself at track events so I need all the help I can get. I miss my air tools sometimes at the track. I've been looking at some of those jacks that use air pressure to jack up the car. Definitely on my wish list for home and the track.
For now I have to put all my tools and spares in the bed of my pickup truck, so it limits me severely. |

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Mike, what kind of "air jacks" are you considering...do you have a link? Thanks |

Something like this one, but I've seen one that is a little more ideal somewhere else. I'm off to look now.

Mike I'm not sure if we will take him next week. Meranda may just stay home. It's not very far away.
The next weekend is the Peru Pro. No way am I spending a whole weekend away from them. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I think it will be doable. We have seen more and more couples with young ones at autoxes. Hell at Nationals Jean Kinser-Dana usually sets up a day care, just for autoxers. Not my cup of tea but......(My sister-in-law will be our baby sitter) A quick FYI that may help some or may not. The 1LE lower front arms have a different ball joint thread than a standard ball joint. The thread size matches the thread size on a Bilstein rear shock nut. Now you can either carry the right castle nuts and substitute for shock nuts, OR in an EMERGENCY add the shock nut to the ball joint. Not all that safe probably but works. And you could even cut a groove for a cotter pin if you have access to a grinder. Yes we found all this out the hard way. |

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif) Yeah racing is a family sport IMO.And the earlier the better I presume as in learning the track safety and do's and don'ts. NASA encourages family attendance and even as some have mentioned has provisions for them like bubble rooms, day care and such.Coarse my kids usually are watching the action (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) And for a new family to bring their new child out there is perfectly acceptable if one want to when done responsibly(key word) and they are looked after accordingly. Oh yeah besides the sun block for the little one dehydration needs to be watched and maybe some ear plugs too (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Tony |

When my son's older like Tony's kids I'm sure it will be a family event. It's just not an option now. When my lease ends on the truck at the end of next year I hope to be able to get a Class C camper so the family will have an easier time coming with me if they want.

I won't list everything, but nylon cable ties saved my day recently. My throttle cable broke and they were the only thing that allowed me to get home w/o a flat bed. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) You can nrver bring too many tools or parts. I'm thinking of getting one of every suspension bolt and nut to store when I get a trailer for the car.
