Edit: Updates added regularly!
Well, I finally did what I've been wanting to do for a looooonnng time. I bought myself a project car to turn into a track only ride. 1995 Firebird Formula T56 Hardtop I'm not sure if I got the greatest deal but I can live with it. Its a '95 Formula hardtop w/ T56. The engine is seized so I'm in the process of planning to drop the engine and also searching for a good short block. I want to do a budget rebuild to get it moving as well as replace a few hard to get to parts while everything is apart. That would include a canton pan, and removing the AC system, A.I.R, EGR, as well as cleaning up a few things and bolt it back together. After that I want to start using it for track days and slowly modifying it with plans for having an '06 CMC car ready. Thoughts, comments, and inputs are greatly appreciated (especially those for the mill rebuild!) I have an LT1 sickness, |

We can definitely share info as my '94 Trans-Am is also slated for CMC 2006. Definitely read the rules thoroughly before buying anything, including the Canton pan. There is only a certain part # you can use for that pan. Unfortunately you cannot have the Accusump and the aftermarket pan, you have to choose. I am choosing the Accusump again as I have on my '84 TA CMC car. I know Nick Steel was planning to go this way also with his 3rd gen CMC car before he sold it. Not sure if he did. Some folks have had complaints about the Canton pans, I don't know anyone who has complained about the Accusumps. I was one of the only folks to have an Accusump until CMC started running Calfornia Speedway two years ago and quite a few folks killed their motors up on the high banking. It was enough to make the rules change to allow the pan or the 'sump. This year folks did fine there.
There are only positives to have the Accusump, having that much oil (extra three quarts) helps cool the engine, also makes start-up less harsh on the metal parts with pressurized oil being released at that time. If you do go the 'sump way, get the manual valve. I have heard of too many failures with the eletrical. The 2005 rules are due to come out soon! I'll be waiting on some decisions until then. |

If it's legal, Billingsley racing has these (to block off the ac). Thought it might help. They also have an airbag "dummy" for the steering wheel (after the bag is gone) that you may have a use for. Make sure that fits a 4th gen. |

I've been reading and re-reading the CMC rules ('04) so as not to make a mistake on an illegal mod. I'm aware of the accusump vs. canton pan (242T) allowance although I do not know of any 1st/2nd hand experiences of which is better. I'll think I'll try and fab up my own block off plate, thats half the fun! Also, when I finally get to the point of gutting my Air bags I may go w/ a different steering wheel but I'm not 100% certain yet. Possibly sell mine for some cash.
plans: fix engine and misc (as above) start track days & race craft setup suspension more track days and race craft finish gutting interior and some more track days and race craft earn comp license install custom cage (w/ nascar bars) race! |

Looks like we'll be "brothers". I will be running CMC for 2005 in my 1995 Firebird Formula hardtop. I posted my setup on another thread last week.
My motor is shot, but I have decided to just buy a complete crate LT1. About $4,700. I've just seen too many rebuilds not last long... I know that a GM LT1 is good for a very long time. I just need to save my money to do this... |

Well, so far I've disconnect most of the wiring, hoses, y-pipe, ECM, and some various other items. Too bad the Cardinals play tomorrow or I'd get more done (game 7). Maybe friday or saturday I'll have the engine/trans/k-member dropped. Yes, I'm dropping it all out the bottom! This is getting fun.
