Hey John,
What do you think about this before I go thru with it? I was planning 2 D-rings in the front of, and on top of the frame rails just behind the radiator support in the engine bay for a tow straps. Do you guys carry different tow straps with you? Like shortys with hooks on the ends to grab those D- rings and form a inverted 'V' to tow from. Suppose I could carry my own (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I thought that would be the best place to put them?? I want a way for the safety crew to be able to get the front level and tires off the ground if need be for a tow back to the pits. Thanks for your time! Tony |

you should be racing in the SFR SCCA right?if you are they have wheel lift tow trucks,so you should be fine. But if i remember right they had a problem with randys car when he broke the bolts for his brake caliper (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) don't know why,but that crew is very good!
to anwser your ?yes thats a great spot, even though we(CAL CLUB)sometimes have to remove a CAI or something to get it hooked w/o breaking something.we carry short j hooks thats a inverted v,so if there is notting to hook to we'll just j-hook the swaybar (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) or sub frame!we do this alot on MIATAS (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) FYI anytime you can install lifting/towing rings on the front and/or back it make it safer and faster(for you and the emerg crew) to get you and the car to a safe area out of the racing line or impact area you you can't go wrong IMO! and they don't weigh that much. just remember that the v lines are going to be pulled forward,so be mindfull of them on the rad& intake!and they should have something to protect the hood on the cable! |

Check the Tow Hook on C4R,
It was done by Alan Blaine Fabrication, in Sunnyvale, CA. He did a similar one on a 4th gen Camaro right before mine. I race in SFR at Laguna and NASA for the other tracks Evan [URL=http://community.webshots.com/album/122909680iDIHyq] |

QUOTE (firehawkclone @ Jan 15 2005, 04:57 PM) just remember that the v lines are going to be pulled forward,so be mindfull of them on the rad& intake!and they should have something to protect the hood on the cable! Thank John for taking the time. I was concidering this to be an issue already thanks. But this did make me think they are going to angle INWARD and forward. I was originaly thinking something to attach to on the shock towers kinda evolved to this idea. Maybe on the shock towers would be best (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) edit: Oh yeah and it looks like Randy wont have any issues now looks to great places to put straps on there (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) Tony |

tony just remember the hood and the boom and cable of the tow truck!Im not sure if are hoods go all the back or not(im checking now)well on my street car it won't work be cuase of the hood shocks, and i think the back corners of the hood will hit the fenders.but if your working with a 4 pined hood than your in (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) FYI we have come close to ripping STB right off (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) becuase the nuts/bolts just aren't strong enough to hold up 2000+lbs(front half) of car!
I guess there's no easy full proof solution (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I just hope you never need this stuff :drive: may you drive back to the pits everytime! |
