QUOTE That does not even begin to describe it! How true, how true. Ya GOTTA watch this event. Motorcycles thru the town and the countryside at blinding speeds. This doesn't even fall into the catagory of 'OPEN' road racing, except it's held outside. WRC is freaking insane, this is three parts removed from psycotic. I love the on board bike cams thru town. I'm convinced those who participate in the Isle of man and World Rally have death wishes... makes for some of the best TV ever. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

Yeah, I've watched some of the motorcycle racing back when I had my "croch rocket" and thought those guys were a few marbles short.......one wrong "hicup" into a tree and it's all over. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

I've kept up with the Isle of Man for about 15 yrs now. I used to love to watch Joey Dunlap teach the young kids a leson on that track {and others}. The guy was at least in his late forties, maybe early fifties when he finally died in a race {not the Ise of Man but another TT race}. It was great to see this guy lap a second or so faster than everyone else, win, get off the bike, take his helmet off and the feller was a grey as my grand father {as grey as I am now!}.
If you only watch one bike race on TV,,,, watch the Isle of Man. Nothing like watching a bike become airborn on a public road at something like 120mph! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/burnout.gif) |

Yeah - I've enjoyed watching that for years; particularly, Joey Dunlap (sp?). Three 17 mile laps around the island - gotta be the bravest form of racing I've ever seen. It's also called the Manx Grand Prix.

Other then this is like a solo 1 event. It is ran on the same kind of course used in racing in the past such the Mila Millia.

Missed it on Speed but found the Riders Circuit Guide on the Isle of Man TT website. Really a cool read. 13 well written pages of riders insights with some pictures. It sounds fun but, crazy on a bike.
My favorite part of the write up is "and then out towards Ballacry. It's a fair old jump there but if you just happen to hit the jump at a little bit of a funny angle, the back end starts to come round in the end - even in some of the video shots I've seen some of the guys with serious wobbles there. You're carrying a lot of speed through there, you're almost airborne. On a big bike I would say 150 to160mph - the whole bike is airborne. It can tend to jump a little bit squint sometimes. I've broken screens there before, just with a whip and you might just touch it with your helmet and take a chunk of screen out - it's quite a nasty bump there.' (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Crazy man. |
