It did ok, but the 2 events I ran it were mostly shakedown. After I bought the car, there was a LOT to change. It turned out that there was more work to do. The 1st event, the radiator let go. The 2nd event, the front torque-arm mount the previous owner had setup let go. Luckily it did it on braking, so only the original torque-arm was damaged.
Obviously, it has a new radiator and a new torque-arm. I went ahead and did the LCAs and Panhard too. The new torque-arm and mount interferes with where the left side of the exhaust wants to go, so a exhaust re-work was in order, amongst other things... Then POOF, no job. So it's pretty much been sitting in the garage, waiting for me to finish "the list" ever since. The car has it, it just needs someone with better mechanical skills and at least one source of income to finish it right. Mike |

The to-do list kinda depends on how far you want to go with it.
My list went something like this... 1) While it goes like stink, it stinks stopping... The front brakes won't bite and I think the reason why is that the front cylinder bleeds past, while the rear cylinder doesn't. The result is that I get a stiff pedal that still won't stop the car adequately... New Tilton MC set. Along with that, is welding up a new MC mounting. It flexes when used a bit too much for me. 2) New rear axle. It has the 7.5 10-bolt with an Auburn Pro diff and 4.11's. The only reason it has lived this long is that the previous owner never put LCA relocators on it so it could never put down enough torque to break it. Was gonna go to a Ford 9" for it's selection of differentials. I suppose a 12-bolt with either a locker or a Torsen T2R would work too. Along with the new rear axle, I was going to ditch the Torque-Arm for a 3rd-link. 3) Drop-spindles. Lowering the car that much has put the front roll center at ground level and the rear roll center is still pretty high. With the roll axis as steep as it is, it likes to pitch the rear wheels, which aggrevates the differential. Drop spindles will correct the front geometry without raising the car. 4) Make adjustable brackets for both ends of the Panhard Bar. Has a lot to do with #3 5) Canton baffled oil pan and oil accumulator. The pan on the car is not baffled, so when you have good tires on it, you can't keep the oil in the pan. Almost found this out the hard way. Luckily, I the big red light comes on before the pressure drops too far, allowing me to shut it down in time. In this car, seeing the big red light, means hitting the big red stop button. It shuts everything off. 6) AFR heads, and a camshaft change. The heads on the car are '66 2.02 heads and have been ported extensively by whomever built the engine for the previous owner. The same goes for the cam specs. Since they're unknown quantities to me, I was going to bring any unknowns in and I figured I'd save some weight and maybe add some compression ratio while I was at it. The engine as-is, is very strong though.. This one is not a "need" 7) Plastic windows, new thin front facia, plastic hood and fenders. Simple weight loss. 8) Get an Art-Carr compression-braking valve body. I never have liked the way automatics coast when you lift. This makes it act more like a manual when you lift. 9) Car currently has a NASCAR bar in the cage, but I wanted to scare the piss out my passengers, so I was going to remove that bar and complete the X on the sides to compensate. This one was optional. 10) Depending on how the rear axle/3rd-link/torque-arm thing works out, an exhaust rerouting is almost certainly going to be required. 3rd-gens are a pain in this area. I was actually going to use SLP 1-3/4" shorties, but keep them dual, and cut a tunnel under the passenger seat for both pipes. Then I was gonna sink a single large muffler in the floor where the rear seat bottom used to be. 11) My 16x12 wheels have 4.5" backspace, which just barley fits up front without rubbing the Koni struts, but there is lots 'o room to bring the rear wheels in. I was either gonna get the axle made up 2" narrower, or get another set of matching wheels with 5.5" backspace. 12) Add a PS fluid and engine oil cooler. It already has a tranny fluid cooler and an ALU radiator with electric fans. 13) depending on how the new rules work out, I was gonna put in a tubular crossmember and lower arms. They're supposed to be illegal, but others in the class are removing far more of their frame parts than that elsewhere. This one is WAY down the road compared to the rest of the list tho... I think that's about it... Is it enough for ya? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) Mike |

Kevin,
I'll have to take you out to it.. I'm on the west side, and it's presently stored out between Pataskala and Buckeye Lake. Let me know when you want to do something like that, not to mention picking up your shifter... <grin> Mike |

Evening? You might wanna make this a daytime thing. There's no lighting where it is (my father-in-law's place), so if it's evening, there might not be much to check out.
Let me know. Mike |
