Apprently a FedEx driver that weighs 500 lbs decided to sit on my package from Sam:

did anything leak out? we had a shipment from one of our suppliers. the ups guy shows up and hands me an empty box. then goes back to get the battery. wasnt his fault. they used a single walled box and put the battery in that. luckily it was an optima.

FedEX is just ok in my book. at least they don't try every way they can to weasle out of compensating you like ups does.

It seems to come down to local personel. For me I was loosing about 40% of what USP shipped in and out of the shop due to damge or loss. Most of what I ship isn't exactly glass, but those monkeys still managed to break/bend things. For me FedEx has been 100% so far in the 6 months I've been using them. So I guess what I'm saying is find out what is better in your area and see if you can get your stuff shipped with them.

I agree with Jason, it does come down to your local crews. Much of the time here FEDEX is a problem in my area, UPS is very good. When I ship I ask customers usually if they have a preference based on their own experiences.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's not FedEx's fault. The brake fluid and air filter boxes were "dented" when I packed them.
I check both and found nothing wrong (worried about the filter not the fluid, it was obviously fine). When the filter was a-okay and not damaged, I packed the stuff up and out it went. The fluid came to me UPS, so you blame them for that. The filter from my WD supplier, I'm not sure when or where that happened. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Fact of the matter is they both treat packages the same way. Comparing them is like saying American handles bags soooo much better than United. They have the same trailers, and the same setups at the Depot too. I worked for FedEx (when it was RPS), and when you realize the trailers are just stuffed you can't do much about it. That's why a good pack is important. You could end up wtih hundreds of pounds on top of a snow-globe. And so far, FedEx ground has only lost one of my swaybars, UPS lost SEVEN in the first shipment alone.................. Locally, I've had better luck with FedEx. Items are delivered more promptly and less likely to just be thrown in plain view. It just comes down to the local crews.

My UPS horror story. 3 years ago I ordered a custom Weatherby rifle. When it arrived the shop called me to say that the box was damaged in shipping and they wanted me there when they opened it. I show up they bring out the box, it was literally mumified in duct tape. Cut through the tape and open the box, the rifle stock was sheared into two pieces and the barrel was bent. Keep in mind it is a kevlar reinforced fiberglass stock and a heavy profile fluted barrel. How in the hell they were able to do this I have no idea. I'm thinking it was shipped UPS Next Day Air, the pilot was a former naval aviator and my box was used as an arrestor hook when the plane landed.
Fortunately everything was taken care of and Weatherby only took 2 weeks instead of the original 3 months to get me another rifle. There is no way that that kind of damage could have been accidental. |

In my area, UPS is top notch. Careful and thoughtful. Same guys service the area all the time. Our UPS drivers voluntarily carry heavier packages into the house so my wife doesn't have to wrestle with tires and parts. On the other hand, FedEx and DHL SUCK here. FedEx left a $700 welding outfit (a Christmas gift for my son on my porch (a few feet from a busy street) without even knocking on the door. Fortunately it wasn't stolen. DHL did the same with my new racetires this past Monday. Four loose tires, sitting on the porch for hours. We were home, they never bothered to knock. We found them as we were leaving the neighborhood to run errands. Guess nobody needed four 255/50/16 RA1s! Wonder how one would successfully dispute a stolen delivery under those circumstances? I always try to get things shipped UPS when I have a choice.

These were all UPS deliveries. The list goes on, but those are some of the most memorable. They didn't do well with the Mustang T5's either. We got a larger percentage of them back smashed (If you are ever in a Jegs retail store and see a liberty T5, it was sent to them to be fixed after UPS smashed it and it has been fully rebuilt/upgraded. We didn't stock those transmissions from Liberty, we had them done to save the product so it had some value. We didn't insure transmissions for very much money and had to eat almost all of the damage, so a rebuild and sale was better than throwing it out). |

Considering that they ship 250,000 boxes a year, I'm sure there is a UPS account rep who is either sick or unemployed after that. I no longer work there, but I have very close friends who do and that was the info I received. I guess we should change the title of this thread, since it was not a FedEx problem, per Sam. (I ship almost everything FedEx ground and they've been great). |

When I worked at airborne, we loved the boxes that said fragile! That meant kick or toss it! In my area, fedex blows. most the time, they make me pick the box up at the station (I thought they delivered) So now, when I order parts, if the vendor does not use UPS, I go else where!
