All through this extended dreary winter, the one thing that kept me positive was the coming track season. So, as soon as weather permitted, out came the trailer, the tools and the car. Ordered tires, replacement parts, spares. Used every free minute to get ready for an April 18/19 event at Summit Point. Resolved the issue about shaved tire balance; found and fixed some worn parts; even found time to add SFCs and heim jointed LCAs. And- finally, I have pneumonia! Will have to cancel the season' first event. Only thing that's not trackworthy is me. *%@!#*^%*$#&@#! I've been there before. Try waking up early and getting to the track only to feel sick while walking the course! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) That was one event a few years ago, the next year I wound up rebuilding the motor which killed half the season, then the car was wrecked a few weeks after the motor was done, this year I found metal in my oil. It's a never ending battle of what goes wrong, I think Murphy has me in his sights when race day comes near.

Oh man ... that pneumonia is some bad stuff ...
I had a 6 week bout with it about 10 years ago. I lost about 20% of my lung capacity. The minimum of cardio exercise gets me winded ... |

QUOTE (mitchntx @ Apr 14 2005, 20:00) Oh man ... that pneumonia is some bad stuff ... I had a 6 week bout with it about 10 years ago. I lost about 20% of my lung capacity. Mitch- Six weeks? I have my second event set for May6th and I'm only 8 days into this thing. Know about the loss of lung capacity- it's the sword's other edge. The other posts give me a better perspective. I understand Murphology, but I'm inclined to accept mechanical gremlins more easily than my own defects. Guess you can't really discriminate between the two. Here's to Murphy! I guess the point never got made ...
Stay home, rest, take your antibiotics ... even after you feel MUCH better ... or you will be carrying this thing around for a while. I waited almost a week before seeing the doctor ... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |

I had double pneumonia when I was 6. I guess that's why I never could run without gasping for air. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

Mitch- I fully intend to heal fully before returning to the track. Aside from my own health, I wouldn't risk anyone elsse's safety by being on track at less than 100%. Just meant that I hope to kick this thing before May. Right now it's anybody's guess how long it will take. Thanks for sharing your experience and advice. Dennis

My relapse was worse than the initial bout ... I got to feeling a lot better and got impatient.
Hope you didn't think I was preaching safety ... just sharing ... |

Pneumonia vaccine is available, it is given as a shot and sometimes you can get it when you get a flu shot.
I think one shot lasts 10-15 years. Might want to ask your doctor about it, won't help with what you got now but there is more than one type of this bug. Get well soon. Z28 |
