Had a great time at the Year One event last weekend. I racked up on the gift certificates, 700 bucks worth! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I took second at the AutoX, winner was a red SM2 C4 Vette driven by a woman in the Atlanta region, her last name was Monk I think. She put a heck of a spanking on me. I was on old Kumho Ecsta 700s and she was on 710s, I think that might have been worth a couple of tenths maybe. I have a Auburn posi in the rear and it's pretty much frigged, I peg legged it out of every turn. Really thinking about a Torsen 2R as my next mod. I wonder what I would have run with the 710s and a Torsen II? If, ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we would all have a merry old time. Facts are I got spanked badly! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I also got beat by Chuck Beck in his Beck Spider {a 917 Porsche replica}. Car weighs 1700lbs and has a 300hp 911 motor. I think that he was a vendor so they took his times out maybe, dunno?

Speaking of Chuck Beck, he also builds Lister replicas. He had one there and he actually let me drive the thing on the course! The car weighs a smidge over 1700lbs and has a 600-700hp Chevy under it. Do the power to weight on that and it's as good or better than present open class sport bikes! Man the thing was intimidating as heck, actually made better times in my Firebird than the Lister. It was fun though and would like to thank Chuck for letting me driving something that I will most likely not experience again.

The autoX track was pretty cool. It was a actual small track inside of the turn 7 area of Road Atlanta, just had a few cones to cut off different parts of the track. AND, you got three consecutive labs per run AND you got to run as many times as you wanted AND you didn't have to work the course!! I had a great time,,, can ya tell!! My wife had a great time AutoXing her little 85 Mustang 5.0 LX. This little car is pretty much stock {3.73 gears and 1.6 roller rockers} on BFG TAs. Not the best of AutoX rides but it was fun. I drove it once and had alot of fun, had my own little "Drift Atlanta" thing going. I have a feeling that those gift certificates are going towards turning the Mustang into a better AutoX tool for Sharon!

They also had a little 0-60-0 event put on by Stainless Steel Brakes. Chuck had the best 0-60 of the event with his Lister, a 2.6 I think. He did that on 335/35/17 Kumho 710s, he was hazing the tires the whole way to 60mph. Think if the think could hook-up!!! Next fastest was a Viper with something like a low 3 sec pass and then a Mustang with a low 4 sec run. I heard the Mustang actually had a set of slicks on the rear. I was forth with a 4.7 run spinning the whole way. I wish I would have tried my ET Streets,, might could have taken that 3rd away from the Mustang and given the Viper a run. I've ran low 60 fts in the low 1.70s at the drag strip. Wonder what that translates to in a 0-60 time?

I won the 60-0 part of the event with a 100ft stop, next quickest run was from a Mitsubishi Evo with a 104ft stop. The Viper did a 108ft stop I think. I think that I could have done a bit better too if I had a few more runs to get everything up to temp. Not bad for a set of 150$ used LG Motorsports caliper relocation brackets and some 120$ Hawk HP+ pads! Well. having sticky 315s sure helped too! The Viper ended up wining the whole thing though, bet me out by because of his much faster 0-60 time.

Finally, I did my first track day. Had a good time, they even gave us a extra session because we were running ahead of schedule. The little school thing could have been a bit faster though, the instructors were keeping the speeds down a bit and nothing really got my adrenalin going too much. But, I'm not complaining a bit. Track day cost 125 bucks in addition to the 50 dollar participant fee so for 175 bucks I got three 20 minute sessions! And, I got 700 bucks in Year One gift certificates from the AutoX and 0-60-0 events. Not too shabby! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif)

Also met Jon Perry down there. John, nice to meet ya feller! Hope you had as much fun as I did. Great looking car BTW. Sorry for the novel but I just had to yap about the event. Please try to make the event next year if ya can,,, lota fun for 50 bucks. Hope to see some of ya'll over there next year.
