Your local Harley shop.

Bought a battery to fit an 04 Sportster 1200, and received what was basically a rebadged PC-680. CCA of around 270 when fully charged the techs said (it was in the paperwork, but I don't have it handy for exact numbers)

Starts the car PERFECTLY. And the price. $72. E-bay retailers are selling the Oddysey for $60 list. If it actually sells for that you have to pay $13 shipping.

The price, performance, and convenience can't be beat.

Now I just have to figure a nice clean way to mount it secure.

Thanks for the info! I was going to look into an Optima Red top, but didn't want a full 38 lbs hanging off the front.

I wrote it down somewhere when I did mine.

Seems like it was 14lbs.

But I don't remember if that was before or after I took off the metal jacket.

Around 13lbs. A little more. Weighed it on a bathroom scale. Normally I weigh things on a digital shipping scale, but I normally borrow that on weekends to weigh parts, and didn't want to wait.....

Battery I took out along with the relocation kit weighed 48lbs.

Do I understand this correctly? A motorcycle battery that weighs 14lbs. and will turn over a GM small block. Are there any negative side effects.
I would like to run a light weight battery but wouldn't even know what to get.
Any help?

Steve

Just show up to a local Harley shop.

And ask for the battery for a new Sporster.

14lbs, starts the car like a champ. Even when it was REALLY cold here in MI last week.

Only drawback is that you'll have to custom fab a mounting system.

Which cable hook-ups does it use? The kind in which the bolt threads down into the terminals, or the other style that uses a bolt and a nut {lawn mower type}. Thanks for posting this, been putting off ordering one for awhile. Now I can just drop by the Harley dealer, cool. Also have to give Harley kudos for using such a good battery.

The bolts thread into the terminals, but they are not the same as the bolts on your battery terminals in the car. I kept my terminals, but removed the stock bolts, and put the bolts that came with the battery back into my stock terminals.

What he said.

I trimmed some of the rubber from the stock terminals. Then bolted em down.

I'll probably work on a clamp system this weekend.

Perhaps I should've done this instead of my walmart everstart last month. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) With my luck the harley battery would be dead in a month. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I had actually considered running on the honda batteries that are about 1/2 the size of the 75 case size GM batteries.

The other good thing about this battery is it has characteristics like a deep cycle marine battery.

A standard automotive battery is shot after it goes dead about 3 times. Or if it's old, one full discharge can kill it off. But this battery is supposed to be able to discharge and recharge a bunch....

I used to have a WalMart battery in the car when the battery was in the back.

I could rely on it alright. Rely on it to barely start the car, and need a jump at least every 3-5 events.

Pat spun the car out in Toledo, and killed it. (you have to bump an auto into N if your sliding backwards pat (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ) I think he was nervous that it wouldn't start, but it happened to me a few times so I knew it wasn't any big deal.

So basically the walmart battery stranded the car nearly on course near the finish, with cars coming strait for us.....

So are there any negatives to using this battery? Does it last as long? How can 270 CCA's start our cars?

So how about a 2 month update? I'm contemplating this battery for an autocross this weekend. Does anyone think the multiple starts for the day would be a problem?

I put in one of these batteries a couple of months ago and it's started my '90 Formula just fine since then. Even if I only start it up to move it, I haven't had a problem getting half a dozen starts out of it. Seems like it could do more too.

Also, one day I forgot to pull the overhead light bulb and it drained the battery. I put it on a trickle charger and it was good as new.

I consider it a good mod since I needed a battery anyway, even if I did pay like $110 locally after tax.
