FS: 1989 Pontiac GTA. TPI 5.7L A4 WS6 suspension. 16" rims. Asking $4000 OBO.
The catches, won't pass smog due to worn valve stem seals in head, has 130k miles some rust and is an original Canadian car so everything is metric.
Has been registered in California already.
Runs strong , shifts good. No bad noises. Very clean car. click here for pictures. Thanks for looking

Probably a bit high even being OBO, but it's always hard to tell in pics vs. real life. Almost all cars look better in pics.

I bought my old '91 GTA with 152k miles with a fresh trans, 2800 converter, and a non ripped up driver's seat [which yours seems to have] for $2000 back in '03 and it passed emissions. Had a few spots of rust but wasn't real bad for a Midwest car. Needed front brakes and rear tires though.

Valve stem seals should only be responsible for the puff on startup. What does the car fail on? HC, CO2?

Well howdy part-time neighbor! Probably price is a little high looking at the photos. Three things jump out "rust, not-smogging and metric/Canadian." A Firebird nut may go for for it though, try http://www.capitalcityfirebirds.com and http://www.transamclub.com classifieds- I am the VP of the first club and used to belong to the second club, Trans-Am Club of America Golden State Chapter. Be sure to advertise in that one, their president Dave Gershon has several third gens including some GTAs. These clubs are based in Sacramento.

Also try the Sac. Bee, that is a great place to sell cars!

Hey all, thanks for the comments.
The car fails the 25 mph co % portion. It wasn't officially smogged yet but im sure it would gross pollute. I did run the test with the cat blazin hot and came out with passing numbers but since it has to go to a test only im sure they would fail it just by the smoke alone.
So now im faced with the option. Drop 2 grand and fix it, then sell it for $4k or sell it as is for $2k. OR build a CMC car.....hummm too bad its has T tops. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif)
Hey Julie, yeah hi there neighbor...well later this year that is. I will try those sources. Thanks for the links. Vince

My '96 is a T-Top car ...

I sold the T-Tops for $300 and spent $250 having aluminum panels built that mimicked the shape and bolted in place.

Now it's considered the same as a fixed roof ...

yeah but those third gens with the 350 TPI flexed so hard that its common for the roof to crack on the passenger side front corner.

Id build it into a CMC car. its a great platform. I don't know what rules they have as far as ttops go, but for strength just cage the car. that engines a pain to work on in that car. heck that engines a pain to work on anyway.

personally i love GTAs so thanks for the pics.

My roof is cracked at the back on both sides. I guess 186k miles on a 350 TPI without SFCs will do that. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I wish you were closer to Ohio. I'm still looking for a third gen (only about 1/2 seriously, but still looking) for a track car. I'd prefer a hard top, but the 350 would be usable as a base car, even if not perfect. One of these days I'll cross paths with one that I can afford and that is close enough to get home.

Is that $500 off of the $2000 "as is" price?

No that was just a printed thought process. The lowest I would go would be 35. You didn't book your flight yet did you?
I might put a set of heads on itthen smog it. seems to be the main concern of everyone interested, its just a full plate thing. Vince
