Howdy,
That's the most hideous interior I've ever seen. And I've seen a decent number of ricer show car interiors. Good lord. Mark |

LOL! I am glad they are NOT bringing back the Firebird if that is what they are subjecting the poor Camaro to on the inside! I think Madonna would be comfortable wearing that speedo and tach gauge for her next concert! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif)

The picture of the burgandy one is growing on me. I think most of the interior looks hideous, but I'm confident that is just for the showcar. On the exterior, I think it looks cool to bring back. My concern is the weight and the price. I have a feeling the 4th gens would be better track cars than the 5th gen. I bet my next new vehicle won't be the Camaro, but a new truck!

I find it funny how the seats are already sloped back like a ghetto sled. |

Please Lord, grant GM the wisdon to build it and may my little girl be out of a car seat by the time it comes to market.
Seriously, I really like the looks of it, at least the exterior. I'll enter the pool for 3750lbs and 33k. I just hope GM doesn't try and do what they did withthe SSR, try and sell something for an outrageously high price as a specialty/halo vehicle. |

That way there is a chance of them getting the 6th gen right (since there will only be a 6th gen if they can sell this one to someone). |

Its officially out now. All I have to say is "Absolutely Badass!" and "effing awesome!".
This from a die hard Firebird guy. I would buy one, based on looks and 'promised' performance. |

QUOTE (marka @ Jan 9 2006, 16:24) Howdy, That's the most hideous interior I've ever seen. And I've seen a decent number of ricer show car interiors. Mark I have seen worse interiors. The new Chrysler Imperial concept car with its iridescent lavender-chrome dash surround/bezel for example: http://www.seriouswheels.com/2006/2006-Chr...rd-1280x960.htm The back seat area is no better with its purple neon lighting. And get a load of that trunk form the rear quarter angle:http://www.seriouswheels.com/2006/2006-Chr...le-1280x960.htm http://www.seriouswheels.com/top-2006-Chry...ial-Concept.htm By the way, this site has all of the full rez pics of the Camaro concept also. I would guess that the starting price for the big V8 version would be $25,000 in today’s dollars. I won’t guess what the inflation will be between now and 2009. But it could easily cost $35,000 if Delphi, Visteon and most Tier 1 and 2 suppliers are gone. Can you imagine what it would cost a car manufacturer to have to engineer and make its own parts? But I think the deal breaker will be the weight. Probably over 3650. Maybe well over. The GTO weighs 3820 lbs. with the 6 speed, and at 110.5”, the Camaro’s wheelbase will be almost an inch longer than the current GTO’s (and close to 10” longer than the 4th gen F-body’s). At least the Camaro concept’s overall length is about 1” shorter than the GTO’s. Where will they get 200 to 400 lbs of weight savings? Will the new platform be any lighter? A platform architecture cannot be weight/strength optimized when it must be adaptable to many different vehicles. The weight could come down, but that would increase the price. Their target buyer would rather drive around a few hundred lbs of extra weight than pay an extra $8,000 for something they can’t even see… lightness. You would think that with all of the emphasis on fuel conservation that manufacturers would be engineering lighter vehicles, but every generation just gets heavier. The Corvette is one of the very few exceptions in the last 15 years. There will surely be 6 or 8 airbags in the car, and maybe a couple of pedestrian airbags on the front like the new S-Class. And they will want to claim that the chassis is XX % more rigid that the last gen. The longer the wheelbase, the more difficult it becomes to maintain or increase rigidity without adding weight. I would not object to a 16” step-over height for tall side rails, but their target demographic wouldn’t even take a test drive. And 10” tall box section side rails would offer greater “side impact” protection than side air bags while saving the cost and weight of the air bags. You probably won’t be able to get the Z28 version without power seats, windows, door locks, mirrors, memory, remote, 10 speaker 300 watt surround sound, active handling, traction control, head-up display, bluetooth, sun visor microphone, separate (red) starter button, etc. And if there is one option that you want, you probably won’t be able to order it without getting 4 other options you don’t want, because option “packages” make more for the dealer and manufacturer. I would have to see it in person to tell if I like the looks. I can see from the pics that it would grow on me, except for the front end. I like many of the exterior side and rear elements, but I can't know if they form a cohesive whole without walking around it. And many of those details may change between now and production.
