So what's the story Kevin? I read you weren't sure how much autocrossing you were going to get in this year, but now you're unloading everything!?!? Did you find a thirdgen or just get sick of the whole sport?

Did you find a thirdgen or just get sick of the whole sport? Not sure. If someone buys the car, I'll figure it out..... I could buy my old motor back (virtually new, very low time), wrapped in a 1992 Z28 with a Stealth Ram, etc. Or, I could go Mini Cooper S shopping, or I could look for a Corvette, or a truck (then a 3rd gen), or, or, or, or,......... I'm not autocrossing this year. I've got other projects in the works (complete rebuild of the home theater....which makes cars look cheap). |

Something tells me you'll be kicking yourself harder for getting rid of the fourthgen than the thirdgen. But then again, who doesn't drool over a great home entertainment system? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Looks like I'll be picking up a 625 watt (RMS), 2400 watt (peak), Klipsch Reference 12 subwoofer very shortly. My neighbors are going to love me. Of course I get to wake up to "polka" music from the guys next door at 7am on Saturdays (it's spanish music, but the baseline sounds like a polka when it's coming through my walls). I'll now have an answer for them if I need it (a nice bonus on top of great sound and really cool for movies). I used to do car audio and run around (10 years ago) with $4500 in equipment in my car, so it's another long term thing and not a new hobby. This thread has become the mother of all hijacks.... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) Maybe I'll split it later. |

QUOTE (lt1aggie @ Jan 17 2006, 11:36) So what kind of TV/Projector do you have? It's on the list for "soon". I bought a 30" HD tube (widescreen) about 3 years ago, and it was always large enough in our apartments, but it's a bit small in our living room at the house. I just hadn't had time/interest/fun money for upgrading the AV system (I'd never run the rear speaker wires since we moved in either). So, we were going to go with a 42" DLP (fits the "TV hole" that's built in the living room), but since we don't plan to stay in this house, we've decided to look at 46", 50" and 55" DLP's. I am still doing research and demo's of a few brands to finalize which one we are going to buy. I suspect it will wind up as a 50", but I'm not sure from who. It's still a work in progress. Right now, I'm nailing down the audio side. |

Its a bad thing if its something on that your about to miss. I don't watch TV (cable), I don't even turn it on (I can't tell you what's on on which nights, unlike some of my co workers who say things like "everyone knows not to call me on Thursday night, that's my night for TV"). So, it's not an issue for me. It's pretty much for movies (and my wife to watch TV) only. So, I'll have no problem with it. I finally killed Speed Channel after I realized that I wasn't watching it at all. |

If you go the DLP route, make sure you get the HD2+ chip instead of the Hd2 and HD3. If I remember correctly, the HD2+ is actually better than the HD3.

I'm waiting for the HD providers, digital video recorders, and TV's get thier act together on the next latest and greatest stuff... mostly on content/copy protection (like for example, the HDCP protocal/whatever over DVI/HDMI)..
The tech is there.. the standards aren't though.. and becuase the standards aren't the interface isn't all quite there to easily record and watch your recorded shows between tv's between your house.. let alone computers, laptop, portable devices, and other people. That all should change very soon.. I'm expecting some new stuff that enables all this to officaly pop out soon. This post has been edited by Ynnek888: Jan 17 2006, 09:33 PM |

just to add to the thread.
Finally got my home theatre all set up. "52 JVC, LCOS, HDTV, HDMI etc etc etc etc w/ dolby 6.1 surround on an 800w samsung system. Not the best system out there but man it rocks my house pretty good and is crystal clear. Watching in car video from the ORR events makes me feel like I am riding shotgun in the cars at over 200mph. I had it up loud enough the other day the neighbor thought I was tuning the car in the living room (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I went through the home theater stage years ago. In the mid 80's I spent close to 10k on a system. Glad I don't have that addiction anymore. Now I spend way to much money on cars.

I highly recommend getting a projector. They are small, light, cheaper than tv's and offer large picture sizes. I got my picture at 93" (6 feet by 5 feet). Circuit City offers 3 yr service plans that include 1 replacement bulb. So far 2500 hours on my bulb (not on powersave) and it's still working.

I'd like to go that way, but you've seen the room I'm working with (for now), I don't have a really good way to run a projector in there. The next house will have a projector/basement theater in it, or that's the plan. I found a projector that I really like at my local dealer for $2999, it's a Mitsubishi (as I remember) with their "dark chip" technology. The picture is stunning. |
