Or do you think the 7" when set vertical will keep up with anything I can do to the front? For those who haven't, check out Volume 15, numbers 2 and 3 HERE. Personally I didn't realize the angle of the spoiler made such a huge difference. The adjustable angle will be a hugely useful tool for those of us without wind tunnels. My current Freedom Design spoiler stands close to 8" off the rear hatch but it's layed back at around 30 degrees. Probably a good match for front breather/airdam front but there's no way it'll keep up with a splitter added to the front. Jon - I read those very same articles last year! I think I can provide a bit of feedback on the effectiveness of the 7" spoiler. I ran that spoiler on the red car in both CMC and AI trim and I run it on the yellow car in CMC trim. The red car in CMC trim didn't have any aero work up front, so I ran it at about 60 degrees. Anything more and I picked up a bit of a high speed push. (IMG:http://gallery.noid.org/albums/album23/Picture_007.sized.jpg) In AI trim without any aero work up front, we kept the spoiler in about the same location: (IMG:http://gallery.noid.org/albums/album09/picture03.sized.jpg) Once we added the front skirt tho, that made it a completely different animal. We stood the spoiler all the way up and then taped down the edges to prevent air spillage around the edges and that just about balanced things out (see the bpic below). I don't think we had a chance to run the car balls out with the radiator exhaust exiting over the hood, but we expected to have had more front end grip requiring more in the back (or less in the front). (IMG:http://gallery.noid.org/albums/album09/picture02.jpg) The yellow CMC car has the same wing, but I've added a front skirt around the radiator deflector. I think I'm running this car's spoiler a bit more upright than on the red car in CMC trim but I can't remember off hand. So, in a nutshell, the 7" one seems to be Ok with the airdam up front, but I think once you start to get psychotic with it, you'll want a longer spoiler. You can always trim to fit if you needed to. I have been thinking of replacing my LGM rear spoiler. It is more looks that effective at this point. But, you know me, looks is important to me (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) (just vain I guess). I don't like the look of the removed stock flat "spoiler" with the Lexan set up, but I do like the look on Julie's Trans-Am. What would the effectivness be do you think with your set up ON TOP of the stock flat spoiler sitting like the LGM sits now? Thanks |

Thanks Randy - You would lose the weight savings from the loss of the OEM spoiler, but if you blocked the gap between the OEM spoiler and the decklid the BF spoiler should should work just fine - maybe better since it would be several inches higher into the airstream. I'd block the gap with an aluminum or CF sheet that blended the leading edge of the OEM spoiler into the decklid near the glass margin I think the Z28 looks fine with the BF spoiler filling in the gap between the fender 'bat ears', but I agree the T/A looks great - like it came from the factory with the BF wing on it. Sealing the underwing could be as simple as duct taping a length of rollbar padding in there, but a blockoff panel would look better - I'd be glad to fab one for you that would pop rivet in place. |

Hey thanks for thinking of my Alan! However, the budget is getting squeezed again. I have some repair from the last weekend coming, and I STILL haven't paid for all the off season upgrades yet. I would like to get out and dial in Jason's new rear shock setup and see where we go from there. I will likely be looking for more rear wing later this year.

My stock spoiler with the Freedom Design spoiler attached weighs around 19 lbs as near as I can tell. The little trim piece that you need to take off to remove the spoiler weighs 3 lbs. Some easy weight savings.
