Step 1 - Install Blaine Fab spoiler Friday night between 6:00 and 6:30
Step 2 - Drive to Willow Springs Saturday morning Step 3 - Collect one gold and one silver medal for the weekend of racing (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Sure, it could happen to you too, and I'm sure other factors were involved other than the spoiler, but let me tell you, I'm one happy camper with this thing installed. It literally took me 30 minutes to get the old one off and this one bolted on. And I'm very happily surprised with the adjustability. 1-2 full twists of the turnbuckles made a noticeable difference. I went on track 1st time with an eye-balled adjustment (made it look pretty). Now, my car pushes like a pig, and the first session proved that. A couple of twists to lower the new spoiler, viola, more neutral. How easy is that? Granted, we were at a real high speed course (2.5 mi Willow Springs - 90+ mph avg lap speed), but I'm more than happy with this purchase. Sorry for the delay, I installed this thing quite a while ago but my car has been camera shy. Anyway, I snapped a few pics today of my Big 10 Inch! (Spoiler):

If you crank it down in this hole you can really lay it down. Big as it is, it's hard for me to see it being too much layed way back if you have any front aero work done at all (for roadracing at least). And it can be moved from there to virtually vertical, giving one a huge range of adjustment in rear downforce. While I like Andy's idea of using chunks of the stock spoiler, mine was already pretty hashed. Beautiful piece. I priced the materials I'd need for making one myself and let me say...that is an attractive price point you're offering them at. And I certainly wouldn't be able to make one that ncie on my first time.

Kinda curious what one would look like with a bit of tinting to it. Put the tint on the backside, so it wouldn't get wind/debris damage. Not much tint, say 50% or less. You'd definitely still be able to see through it, unlike some other aftermarket spoilers which block rear vision signficantly.

Jon - Thanks for painting the patches - I punch them out of teflon coated fiberglass tape, and assumed that paint would not stick. How did you prep them for paint?
Rob - Ya, the coated Lexan is pretty pricey, and shipping is expensive too. UPS also managed to get something sharp thru 2 layers of cardboard and gouge the piece, leaving me with 1 spoiler worth of scrap. Rob - I think standard auto tint on the spoiler would reflect light and appear opaque, much like what you would see if you look at a tinted hatch from the rear. Shields does offer a bronze tint on some pieces, but all sanctions that I know of prohibit tint front and rear so I would not recommend it for the spoiler, 'cept mebbe on an autocross car. What you all will find is that the spoiler sucks up a layer of dust and grit on the backside - Use a recommended cleaner: http://racingshields.com/index_files/care.htm and rinse with lots of water. Never rub it dry. If you remove the Lexan panel from the brackets to clean it, do not overtighten the screws when replacing - just snug and then back off 1/8 turn. |
