I started to Auto-X last year and I was wondering if there are any members from Ohio I could hook up with. There doesn't seem to be very many F-bods at my local SCCA. (OVR) I'm also interested in road-racing but I have no idea how to get started in that and I was wondering if anyone would like to help a newbie out?

Thanks

I wasn't ever into autocross, but as far as road racing there's usually two deals in town: SCCA or NASA. I got going in NASA by meeting a few racers who invited me out to a weekend at a track by my house. I took my car to an event a month later.

When you're getting started with NASA, you do what's called HPDE (high performance driver's education). You're not out there racing, you're out there learning car control and situational awareness with an instructor riding shotgun giving you input.

If you're coming from the traditional F-body route, drag racing, try to forget the mod bug right away. You don't need to mod much just to get out on track. My car was a good example of that. The first time I went out was on a stock 186k mile WS6 suspension and an automatic transmission. The automatic didn't last long, which brings me to my next point, reliability should trump speed when you're starting out. The lack of that cost me two days worth of time between my first two weekends.

I don't know of any F-bodies that race with NASA OH/IN other then KeithO, and he's from PA. You might want to get in touch with him when NASA goes to Mid-Ohio if it's not too far away from you. You get a lot better understanding of what it's all about when you're actually at the track.

You might want to check out these sites for more info:

http://www.racenasa.com - The OH/IN region website
http://www.nasaforums.com - There's an OH/IN regional board there if you wanted to try to hook up with any other people close.

There are a couple, but all the good ones are in Texas.

Welcome aboard ...

Hello welcome aboard. I went to a couple Auto-X events at http://www.noraracing.net/ and http://www.autox.net/ Nora been the closest to me. They are both run by the same guy. There are 2 Fbodies regulars there, then there is viper99ta and me who ocassionally participate. I'm hoping to participate fulltime this year is funds allow. I also like to attend open trackdays at Nelsons Ledges and other tracks around when I can. Vipper99ta is also helping organize this event http://www.race4awish.com/

Where are you located? I'm near Cleveland.

Just ignore the Texans, they're delusional. All that hot sauce has gone to their brains. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I run with OVR in ESP or SM and won the local ESP champion from '03 though '05. I'm also President of the local F-body club.

Howdy,

I'm not too sure where OVR is... I live just south of Youngstown, OH and autox with the Steel Cities Region out of Pittsburgh... Most of our events are run at BeaveRun.

OVR = Ohio Valley Region. Central Ohio might be more correct though.
