HAhahahaha....no biggie! You broke the elbow bracket for 3rd gen 1LE? That holds the caliper to the spindle?

Yep! I was doing a complete new brake rotor/new DTC 70 pads break-in at my local track as I have done many times before.

I go by the book, a few minutes of gentle warm up stops followed by a some maximum effort (almost)stops.

When I nailed it the last time before pulling into the hot pits to let it all cool down, I heard and felt a bumping noise from the front right.

I stayed off the brakes, and was approaching the wall to park when the front wheel simple locked up and I came screeching to a halt. The whole shebang was bound up inside the wheel, with the caliper shaving the inside of the wheel and the bracket had dropped various pieces and one had jammed in a spoke of my C5 18" wagon wheel. I had to jack it up, remove the wheel, use a hammer to remove the shrapnel, and then install an AN3 cap on the brake line fitting to allow the car to be driven back to the paddock! These brackets have been in steady use since 2001 and maybe they actually have a life limit! Who knew cast iron was so easy to break?

Wow....that's scary. Glad it happened at low speed!

Can you post a pic of the banana bracket that failed?

I don't use any photo servers, so we'll see if I can get something up.

Or I can email you a pic if you like.

Sorry Costas,

Your email address kicked the message back. I was sending two HD pictures, so that might be the issue.

Hey Costas,

Are you referring to the caliper bracket/backing plates that are pressed on? I have my old 10 bolt in my back yard, it's been there for about 6 months but should have what you need on it. Shoot me over a picture to jgaydos98@gmail.com of what you need and I'll see what I can do.

Yes, but they are bolted on by 4 bolts.

And snaps of Larry's broken caliper cages.

At first I thought he broke the caliper bracket that holds the cages to the spindle, but this is the cage.

Just an update as of today: After calling Baer who still sell the parts for the C4HD Track Kit I installed all those years ago, and buying a new caliper body, bolts, and bracket, I ran the TA at the track today with no issues. I do plan to run all the remaining pieces though Magnetic Particle inspection when my season ends next week!
