Bought the car from the cars first owner who was in his 70's. He died from a stroke. My intent was to make it a track car taking students for training rides on a sport car course. Never happened. Spent too much time on my race car. I bought hardware to do this and I'll include it with the car. If parts are not wanted we can talk less $$ for car.

Adjustable coil overs for front.
Shorter rear springs
Adjustable panard bar [ need when rear is lowered ]
4 New shocks [ already installed ]

I bought the car 6 years ago with 28K miles on the car, it now has 32K miles. Since I have owned it it has been run with Mobil 1 oil. In fact I just changed the oil and filter a week ago.

Kellys Blue Book lists the car for $12.6K

Starting in 2001 all LS1 engines came with LS6 [ again corvette ] intake manifolds without an EGR system.
Advertised HP raised from 310 to 325's with the SS options which is what the car is. Actually probably higher because GM has been know to lie on HP of performance cars.
All 6 speed cars had the corvette ZO 6 clutches.
At 70 MPH on highway with cruise the car gets 26 MPG. Difficult to believe but engine is only turning around 1750 RPM's.
I took the chrome SS wheels off to keep them nice and have corvette wheels on ; both come with the car.

I want $12K for the car and parts. Less if you don't want the parts. I've discounted the price already so don't offer less. I don't ask more than I want so you feel like you got a better deal by talking me down. Ask Pat if you don't believe me.

Price the similar cars on line and you find them priced much more than $12K. I blew two engines in my race car and need $$$$$ for winter rebuild/upgrade for the 2013 season.

I have put approximately 2k miles on this car. Since I purchased it I've done a tune up (plugs, wires and fuel filter) since it didn't run well at all when I picked it up (it runs fantastic now) and I've added an SLP "lid", SLP "SS" floor mats, SLP front license plate bracket, Hellwig 22mm hollow adjustable rear sway bar (to go with the front 35mm bar on the car) and a Spohn strut tower brace. The car also has a Hooker cat back exhaust on it that's in excellent condition (and sounds great without being too loud). (I've likely put over $700 in it since buying it).

It still includes the front upper control arms, rear springs, coil over parts and chrome SS wheels ("ZR1's" with SS center caps, it's currently wearing '91 Corvette "sawblades"). I'll throw in the 5 point Sparco cam lock harness (expired) if you want it. I have a box of monsoon speakers to fix the blown front speakers (I never got around to it, but I have the parts). I have stock a car cover and the Decarbon rear shocks and you can have those too. I have a stock PHB for the car, it's included and I'm sure there's more.

For an extra cost I have a set of new trackbrackets and virtually all the parts for the conversion (add PAB's and brake hoses and you're there). I also have an assortment of front and rear sway bars for a 4th gen, if you need/want other bars we can talk about that too.

$12k

Short answer, had enough of car projects the other night after fighting with the Corvette. Working on stuff isn't as much fun as it used to be and trying to get the Corvette done has me thinking that I need more space or fewer cars.

And....(longer answer):

We are wanting to start looking at property and I don't really need the second project car (and we're shooting enough matches these days that I don't need so many expensive hobbies/projects). It's fun and it's running spectacularly well. It's been fun to drive another LSx F-body for a while (and I always wanted a Sunset Orange SS). The front Koni's are going to be nearly $800, rears are a couple hundred more. Shifter, fidanza flywheel and Centerforce clutch (while I'm in there), plus springs and rear suspension parts. My plan is to set it up just like my 2002 Z28 (which had all of those things) and I don't know if I want to dedicate the money to this on top of the million dollars I have in the Corvette (which might just get finished after all). I considered parting out the Corvette, but figured it was easier to sell this one (more marketable).

So, it doesn't have to leave...but if a buyer pops up I'll send it to a new home (I may finish the Corvette and sell it too if a buyer comes along).

Nobody needs a nice SS? I'd like to sell it before it snows and I store it for the winter.

This is very tempting, even though I do not need another Camaro. Did you have any exterior shots?

It comes with a set of chrome ZR1 wheels (there are no tires on them) so these pics are current and of the car on an old set of Corvette wheels. I can mail higher resolution photos to anyone interested.

I understand. I have a Corvette to finish and I'm wanting a 4wd truck (trade in the Jeep). I'm trying to talk the wife into letting me trade this in on a new car for her (and sell off her car). If it doesn't sell I may just trade the SS and the Jeep in for a 4wd pickup. That fixes my "too many cars and not enough parking places" issues all in one shot. I'm really hoping to send it to a good home before I get to that point.

Still for sale. Somebody needs a nice SS. Buy it before it warms up and I change my mind.

I told my wife I was going to sell this AND the Corvette and she reminded me that there was an engine in that Corvette that she got very dirty assembling and she wasn't going to let someone else drive her engine. smile.gif

$11,500

Posted by: trackbird Mar 14 2014, 03:36 PM

$11,250 No interest? Currently about 35,500 miles on it.

I've been looking, and if I could decide what I wanted to buy I'd just go trade it in. Sadly there's nothing out there I really want to go buy and I'd rather see it go to a good home.

Amazing price on a low mileage Camaro.

Posted by: trackbird Mar 27 2014, 11:41 AM

My friend offered to do a The Truth About Cars article on it for me. I told him I'd need to mount the nicer wheels and such first. He then suggested we do an article for one of the national magazines involving a drag race between the SS and a brand new V6 Accord (mostly to illustrate how far the common "grocery getter" has come in recent years). So, if it doesn't sell...it may start to pop up in various car related articles at some point.

The black car in this article is my old 2002...

Man I want it so bad. Someday I want an LS1 Camaro, but now isn't that time.

Posted by: trackbird Mar 27 2014, 01:31 PM

I hated to mark it down that far. At this point, I've owned it for almost a year, put 2k miles on it and I'm paying about $1.15/mile to drive it. I paid $12,800 total and put about $700 in it to get it to actually run and some tasteful mods (adjustable rear sway bar, floor mats, STB, SLP lid, etc). I really figured it would sell pretty easily...but it hasn't.

I always wanted a SOM SS... I guess I'm not going to be too upset if it stays, but I need more space for parking and I have too many projects/hobbies (so I'm thinking it would be smart to sell it).

Posted by: BumpaD_Z28 Mar 28 2014, 06:06 PM

I passed this car F/S info along to a friend that has wanted a SOM car, he is in the middle of closing on a house loan, BUT if you still have it after he's done ... I hope he can get it !!!

Posted by: trackbird Mar 28 2014, 07:08 PM

Thanks! I always did too. A friend had an SOM SS and I'd never seen one before that and I fell in love with that thing. When this one popped up, I knew I was going to buy it. I also planned to "give up" and part out the Corvette....(which didn't happen).

Posted by: Jano4 Apr 3 2014, 04:49 AM

If I had the extra space and spare cash (saving for a house) then I would have loved to take this car off your hands.

Posted by: trackbird Apr 18 2014, 01:08 AM

I have a serious buyer interested in it and he asked me to dyno it tonight (I have a dyno shop 1000 feet away). 324.5hp and 339.8 ft lbs. Not bad numbers (at least to me). I guessed 323 hp and the first pull was 322.8 hp (my wife just looked at me with that "look"). lol.

Me too. I ALWAYS wanted an SOM SS (at least after I saw my friends SOM SS and did some work on it for him). I can't believe it's still here either. It was on here, LS1tech and corner carvers. I was trying to avoid the local autotrader thing ("Yea, I'd like to come drive it....I'm...um....interested" and other such nonsense).

The Corvette is running and I hope to have it on the ground and moving by the end of the week. I really didn't need both toys and was hoping this would go. I haven't been driving it since I had a buyer. It still has 35,6xx miles on it. And I already sold off the upper control arms and the C5 brake stuff I had for it (since I decided to let it go). I guess if I get stuck with it, I'll be welding in some SLP SFC's soon, a PHB, Global West front control arms, some wheels (that I actually like) and collecting Koni's and springs.

I'd really rather sell it....if anyone is intersted. smile.gif

Posted by: trackbird May 22 2014, 04:12 PM

I think it's going to the alignment shop this weekend. The Corvette is getting new tires today and I believe I'll swing by the BMV and pick up new plates for it tomorrow. I either need to find Koni's and springs or a buyer. smile.gif

I really can't either. It still has 35,5xx miles on it. Since it was supposed to be sold I haven't been driving it. I have a current dyno sheet and I cleaned it all out recently. I may go get it aligned today and I'm starting to make plans for what I want to do to it (in case it's still here when I get the Corvette project wrapped up...which should be very soon).

I decided I was going to sell it. I'm going to sell it. smile.gif

Posted by: trackbird Jun 11 2014, 11:28 AM

I know. Right now I can't give things away. I posted an MSD distributor that was $295+tax new, has an hour of run time on it (if that) and I can't seem to sell it for $195. Not even a nibble. If it lays around long enough I'll just buy a 3rd gen to put it in (I know me).

It's sad. It's also a possible sign that the economy is slowing back down. Guys used to fight over parts, now nobody even sends a PM.

I packed up all the leftover SS parts (shift knob, sway bars, some poly stuff and frame bushings I had, PHB, stock airbox and anything else that would bolt to that car) and stuffed them in the back of the car for the new owner. I can't sell it all and now it's out of my garage. I'll call it a win.

Posted by: nape Jun 12 2014, 04:50 PM

Depends on what you're selling. I put (4) used 6 year old tires from my dually on Craigslist two days ago for $100. I had 6 e-mails and 5 phones calls in the 4hrs it took someone to show up. After that, I put up an ad for some bald Saturn tires for free (so I don't have to pay the $2.50/tire to dispose. Hah). I've got 3 people who want to come pick them up today. I think people are pretty much sticking to necessities and controlling the impulse buys a little better.

I've been looking for an SUV for the wife but used vehicle prices shot up after everyone got their tax returns. It's getting back to the point where stuff is sitting around and the prices are coming down.

I'm not looking forward to selling some of my spares that I don't need anymore, but ebay has free listings until Saturday, so at least it won't cost me anything to find out no one wants my stuff. rotf.gif

Posted by: trackbird Jun 12 2014, 05:53 PM

New car prices are just as insane. I drove a 2014 extra cab/short bed (I don't believe in short bed trucks, but I need to park it and don't need "that much truck" these days) the other day. It was a Z71, 4x4 LT package (trip computer, cloth seats, towing package with built in brake controller....nice truck) and it stickered at $43k. After rebates and discounts I was looking at $35,350. I can't really bring myself to spend $35k on a truck. And I drove it, and it was nice...but I didn't fall in love with it (and I'm not sure the seats would be comfortable for long trips). So, I'm looking for a truck. New truck prices are "stupid" and used truck prices are just as insane (if not completely unreasonable) these days.

I may be driving my Jeep for a long time...

Posted by: nape Jun 12 2014, 07:42 PM

Pretty much. Cruising Craigslist has pretty much become a part time job trying to find someone who isn't out of their mind. I don't see how people think their shit box with a bunch of dents qualifies for KBB Excellent RETAIL pricing...

Well, KBB isn't standing here with a stack of hundreds to buy your truck and I am...

They only rated it as "excellent" because KBB doesn't have a "my shit is spectacular" price on the website...

The one buyer I had come look at my truck (when I was selling in 2012) said "book is 11 and I'm thinking "$10k". I booked it (honestly with the options) and it was $12,800 to low $13's. He didn't add any options, just "2007 C 3500" and said "Oh, $11k". He was going to give me $10k. Carmax gave me $9k and I didn't have to screw around for the day getting the title work done and all that. He called back two days later and I told him it was gone. Oops.

If I found that same truck today (2 years and the mileage later) someone would be asking $15k for it....I'm almost sure of it.

My Tacoma would be over $32k to replace, so $35k isn't that bad. But driving the Jeep for a while is probably a wise move.

But we are counting the days until we can get rid of this jeep. This is one of the few vehicles I've ever owned that I really dislike. I'm sure it's leaving....just when and for what?

Shhh....the new owner is registered here now. Turns out he is a friend of Robs (Rob71LM7, one of the mods/long time members here) from the Kentucky F-body group some time ago.

I understand, but then again I've never been a fan of anything Chrysler. Some of their styling is great, but I never thought much of their long term quality.

That's why I'm looking at CJ-7's if I get a Jeep. Before Chrysler took over.

The seats aren't comfortable. It will go ANYWHERE...but I don't want to sit in it long enough to get there.

What is this shh business? smile.gif

Hi everyone, excited new owner here. As Kevin mentioned, I was in (co-founded) Kentucky F-Bodies... www.kyfbodies.org... with Rob, who Im sure I met at some point at a bash or something... That was a number of years ago and sadly, not much action there anymore. Ive been the proud owner of 2 Z28's.. 95 and 97, both 6-speed and 1 t-top. I had to get rid of the 97 (had a 355 with a mild cam and full exhaust) when the first born started baking in the oven, traded it for a Tahoe then traded that in on a minivan. Needless to say, I cant wait for this car to show up.

For those wondering, the car will remain as is (probably putting the stock sway bar and PHB on) for awhile. My other car (2001 VW Passat with 175k) is going to get put on jackstands and will get overhauled so it can run for another 175k issue free. Once thats done the SS will go to weekend warrior status and a build project will be started. 2thumbs.gif in the meantime Im going to be doing some reading and question asking here so as to prepare for said build.

Welcome aboard David. I'd put the stock rear bar on it, but leave the 35mm front. The larger front bar has little impact on ride quality and really helps handling and response. Beyond that, the Bilstiens should have about 4k miles on them and the stock PHB works for a daily driver.

It should be on the way (they said the truck was leaving today) and you should see the paperwork on Saturday via Fedex.

As for questions, ask away!

Indeed. When we settled on a replacement vehicle for the now-getting-troublesome 95 Caprice my wife was DD, and started looking, we found a dealer in Florida that specializes in police vehicles. They'd post on their website 'new arrivals' with a price, before they'd take delivery. Then, they'd make a bid on the things, and get outbid, sometimes at more than what they were offering the vehicles for on their site. They said that other resellers are even buying vehicles from them at what they're priced them at, jacking up the price again, and reselling them.

We finally got lucky on a 2010 PPV, but ended up paying probably only about $7K less than what the thing went for new. We're still quite happy with the purchase, though, even at the premium. It's fun to drive, and so far, has been dependable, which is Job 1 for someone who's on call 50% of the week.

Welcome and congrats on the sweet ride! 2thumbs.gif

DO NOT let ANYONE tell you that these cars cannot be used as a daily driver with a baby/young kids.

I've used it to transport my two sons from the time they were young, and even took BOTH of them to hockey practice/games in it at the same time, with ALL of their equipment, and one was a goalie!!!!! : gr_eek2.gif
