With the warmer weather upon us, it's time to really do some spring cleaning of your driving skills :-) .

The NY Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America is hosting two autocrosses at Nassau Coliseum. Saturday May 14 & Saturday May 28, events are being held where you can 'give it a go'. Though their classing obviously favors BMW's, they are quite receptive to non-BMW participation. You'll run in class "F" which is for forced induction cars and those with engine displacements of 2500 cc or more.

As a nice side benefit, their events tend to give you more runs and time with instructors (who will be absolutely frightened about the prospects of an F-Body dodging cones :-) ). Courses tend to be very similar to what you would find at regional SCCA events. Registration opens up at 8AM and the events usually conclude by 4:30 PM. Plan on spending the day there; which means bring lunch, liquids and appropriate clothing and necessities.

Rules and info can be found at http://www.nybmwcca.org/autocross

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Howdy all!
The New York Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America is holding an autocross event at Nassau Coliseum on Sunday August 29, 2004. They charge $30.00 for BMWCCA members (member card required to get the discount) and $40.00 for non-members.

Even though it's the "BMW Club", they are quite open to other makes participating in their events. As it is the BMW club, they would obviously gear their classing to BMW's, non-BMW drivers get put into two general classes depending on engine displacement. The break level is at the 2 or 2.5 litre level; I would have to double check where it is exactly since I'm usually on the "big" side and never really committed the break to memory.

They tend to get a bit smaller turn out than the SCCA events. As such, everyone driving winds up having to work twice, but the worker chiefs tend to try to accomodate groups of friends at a workstation. Also, since there are a lower number of participants, there is the chance of getting more than the usual number of runs. A nice side benefit is that there is also the potential for more one-on-one instructor time.

Courses tend to be on par with what you would find at an SCCA event. Operations and such are also on par.

Come on out and improve your driving skills! Hope to see ya there!

Mark

Hello All,
I am pleased to announce to forum members the availability of a Novice Autocross School being held by the New York Region of the SCCA. New York Region has the honor of being the home region of several national level champions.

For anyone interested in autocrossing, this is a great way to get introduced to the sport. The school will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY and will run from approximately 8AM to 4:30 PM. With the entry fee of $60.00, ***By Pre-Payment Only***, we will provide the equivalent seat time of two events with extensive instruction. Many of the instructors have competed at national level events and are selected for their ability to apply their experiences to their students. You will be exposed to many of the aspects that make up a successful autocross event and a light lunch with beverage will be served.

For anyone interested in participating in the novice school, please send me an e-mail (conemark at mac dot c o m) or PM.

Thanks!
