I'm not sure where to ask this question, so I'll try here in General.
Has anyone moved their gas tank from above the axle to behind the rear seats?
I figure 2 small tanks with a connector to bridge them would work as well as stock.
The reason I want to do this is to rearrange the space in the car. The rear seat area is useless to me and I would like to regain the space taken up by the factory tank. Plus it seems safer if hit from behind. You'd just need to build a steel shield over the tank to isolate it from the cabin.
Any thoughts on this? Can it be done? Anyone already done it?

You can see pics of mine in my sig abit it is not infront of the axle

To put a tank(s) there would require (as any cell install) some fab work and I think it could be done fairly simply. But you would have to make sure to close it all off from the passenger compartment and seal it with some sort of fire wall. Along with that the hardest part would probably be finding a spot to fill it from. Other than that...break out the plazma cutter and sawsall and start cuttin away and inclosing a area for them.

one other thing....NEED to make sure that it would be protected from the driveshaft should anything break. I've already had the rear of my driveshaft/rear yoke come apart and try to force its way into the back seat.

I basically need more space in the rear hatch area and have all this wasted space behind the seats. If I relocated it, I would lower the rear hatch sheetmetal and make the rear storage area much larger. I guess no one has done this before, especially on a street car with full interior.

Oh well, if anyone runs across any cars like this, let me know.
Thanks.

Seems like a lot of work just for some storage space.
