Goodguys 23rd Pennzoil Southeastern Nationals preparation started on Saturday for my wife and myself. We took the girls to grandparents so we could have a date day. We had big plans for Sunday. We were going to cruise down to Goodguys bright and early Sunday morning. We were on the road before day break. We met one of our friends on the way so we could cruise together. It was just like old time when he and I would cruise to shows.
We arrived at Lowes Motor Speedway at 7:15 am. This gave us plenty of time to sign up to race, find a grid spot, walk the course, and prep the car. While signing up my other buddy and girlfriend arrived. We both signed up to run the autocross. He brought his Focus ST and I ran my 01 Camaro. We cruised in the track after signing up and found our grid spot. We then unloaded the car’s, mounted camera, and set tire pressure. Next, we walked the course trying to find the best attack line. After the course walk next up was the driver meeting. Now we were ready to take aim at the course.
I made my first pass. I was able to give a ride to a spectator. Here is the link to the YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5MlWryrlJM . This was her first time on an autocross track. She had a blast. After my first pass I was in the top ten. My buddy then made his first run and he managed to get in the top ten also. We waiting our turn again to make our second pass. I was up first. I was able to get my wife in the car for this run. I will post this video in the next couple of days after I edit. After this run I managed to jump to third place. Next up was my buddy. He shot out the gate made the first turn headed to down the back stretch. He then jumps on the breaks to make the left hander. He came in a little too hot. The front outside tire locked up. There went the ability to steer and in the wall, he went. It was a pretty hard hit. He was towed off track. The rest of the day was spent finding a truck and trailer to get his car home. I told him the one time I drive my car to the track and leave the truck and trailer home we need it. Guess that is how it goes. It was still a fun day, and one we will never forget. We were able to borrow a truck and trailer from a local friend. We loaded up the car. Once the car was loaded we headed out to get the car home and unloaded. This was a feat in itself. We got the car home unloaded and by this time it was 5 pm. We all jumped in my car and headed to Buffalo wild wing for a bite to eat before my wife and I made the one-and-a-half-hour ride home.
All in all, it was a good day. Even though I was only able to make 2 run I still manage to squeak out an eighth-place finish. Not too bad considering I stop running at 10 and they keep running till 1.
Hope you enjoy the video. Hope to see you at a future event.

Better late than never. Here is a recap to share my family’s experience at Optima’s Search for the Ultimate street car at Charlotte Motor Speed July 30th and 31st. This race was not only special because it was at a world famous NASCAR track. It was special because it was my wife’s and I 6th wedding anniversary! What better way to celebrate our wedding anniversary than to be racing at a world famous NASCAR track. We were on the same track famous drivers trade paint on.
We arrived on Friday so I could attend Ron Sutton seminar. It was awesome. The seminar was on car set up and suspension tuning. This took place in the speedway club. I have always wanted to go there and see what it was all about. My dream came true.

While I was attending the seminar my family was settling in at the campground in front of ZMax drag way. We rented a camper for the weekend. After the seminar I was able to tech the car in. We then grab a bite to eat and hung out at the campground. Sitting there soaking it all in. Nothing better than hearing nature and then a rumbling car crank up in the back ground.

Saturday morning could not get here fast enough. I woke up with the chickens and took my short drive to the track. Pulled the generator out and started her up, cranked the ac to max cool to help fight the brutal heat that was coming fast. Had to make sure my 6 week old did not get too hot. This was her first time at the track. Track walks were next. Walked the autocross and speed stop to get a game plan. Next was the driver’s meeting. Then it was on to racing. Since I had speed stop first I jumped into the car to get the Design and Engineering completed. I was second in line. I placed 22nd in class and 48th overall. Now with D&E completed it was on to the speed stop. I manage to pull out a 6th place GT class finish and a 20th overall. Lunch time came and went and now it was time for the Autocross portion. I manage to pull out a 11th place GT class finish and a 32th overall. With the autocross portion over it was on the road rally. Go pro Motorplex here we come. Once we got to Go Pro they had supper prepared for us, and what a spread it was. Then it was back home to play with my oldest girl on the swing set. I pushed her on the swing as the sun set. Then off to bed we went to get ready for the road course portion in the am. I was up again with the chicken. Watched the sun rise over the track as we were pulling in. Next was the drivers meeting, then on to the racing. I manage to pull out a 17th place GT class finish and a 37th overall. With all the segments combined I manage to pull out a 11th in class and 28th overall. I was happy with my place especially considering what I was up against. Now it is time to pack up and go home to share all the stories from the weekend.

If you have never attended or raced at a OSUSC event, you need to. This is a bucket list item. The people are awesome in the series and events are very well ran. You will see anything from a Mazda Maita to classic pro-touring Vette to a Porsche GT3, and everything in-between. Hope to see you at an event.
Now, a little about the car I am racing. The 01 Camaro is mildly built. It has headers, full exhaust, lid, tune, Strano springs, Koni shocks, Tubular Lower control arms, panhard bar, and relocation brackets. This car is also an automatic. I have built this car out of used parts from internet forums. This goes to show if you want to be out there you don’t have to have the best or newest you just got to DRIVE!!!

Thanks to my wife, kids, family, friends, and the Lord for all the help and support they give me!!!

Thanks for watching and don’t forget to like and subscribe!!!

Here is a short video of one of my runs at the CCR#3 “Central Carolina Region” SCCA Autocross. The car is a 2001 Camaro Z28 with a few mods. There was 150+ cars at this event. There was anything from a 1977 VW rabbit to a 16 vette on slicks to Detroit Speed Vette. The Vette was amazing. Their Vette took home first and I finished second in the CAM class. There was also a 14 Z28 which ran some fun run. This car was just amazing to watch run.
