http://business.bostonherald.com/businessN...?articleid=1642

We got a call at 3:30pm Friday informing us there would be an emergency general managers conference call at 4:30.

At about 4:45 one of the computer IT guys came into our office stunned - he told us we were out of a job, the company no longer existed.

At the same time the phone rang. It was our GM, who was off for the day, informing us to put a sign on the door saying we were closed due to an emergency and he'd be in in a few minutes.

The gist of the phone conference was basically thank you for your time and service, effective 4:30 the company no longer exists, clock out your staff, put as much food as you can in the freezer, lock the doors, and go home - (hang up).

We have no clue what happened, nor did we have any idea this was coming.

We stuck around for a while, said our goodbyes, fielded lots of phone calls from newspapers, hosted a local news camera crew, then headed home unemployed.

WTF? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

I know my last two paychecks cleared my bank but I'm not certain I'll get one for last week.

Just felt like venting...

Take it from someone who was just there.
In 10 months, I lost job, wife, and self-respect....
The market has turned around, jobs are ramping up, and you will come out with not only a better job, but a higher paying one.........
I pass my good luck to you......

Sorry to hear this.
What did the company do?
The jobs probably went to the Phillipiens or India. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

I hear the banks called in the loans! Guess someone wasn't makin the payments?

Company was the Ground Round. I've had a few phone calls already, we're doing as much networking as we can. Something like 70 or so restaurants around the country were affected.

One of the hard parts to overcome is seniority. Start from the bottom again, which means no vacation for 6 mos, then only one week. Don't hit week two until one year passes.

I can only guess what this means for time off to autocross?

Thank goodness my wife carries the health insurance.

Just what I wanted to do - start from the ground floor in my 40's.

Not the first time I've been laid off recently. After Sept 11, I was laid off from the Hotel industry.

Time for a new line of work?

Shit man, that sucks. Like a couple of others have said, new doors will open up. Maybe its time to open up your own shop?
