F-Body Road Racing and Autocross Forums _ General Discussion _ Vacuum/boost line

Posted by: slowTA Mar 10 2018, 06:28 PM

My other car is a 2011 turbo Regal and I need to replace the vacuum/boost lines that go from the turbo and wastegate to a solenoid. It looks like regular vacuum hose but there is a red core to it. Does anyone know what makes that different and where I could find a source for it, of course I only need a few inches.

It is shown in this picture:

I am not really sure. Maybe its not rubber? I just recently read that real vacuum hose is measured in only /16th of an inch, but fuel line is in /8th inch. And vac hose is more rigid than fuel lines to resist collapse. So you ask for "9/16th vac hose" at the parts store so they don't give you fuel line (?).

It's only function is to let pressurized air move through it right? If so, I imagine you just need to find the same inner diameter hose that will survive with whatever pressure the old hose was seeing. OEM probably had some special blend polymer to better survive the heat from the turbo and the possibility of oil/fuel getting in there.

Just my $0.02

Edit: afterthought: the OEM polymer might also be more resistant to expanding under pressure to give the solenoid accurate readings.
