This is why I've listed so many things for sale recently. The owner of the car and I agreed that we would trade cars plus cash from me. I've been selling stuff to fun the difference and then to start a "trailer and safety equipment update fund".

The net on the transaction was $200. Once I sell some more stuff that I don't need since I can't use it on the new car, this will become a zero dollar transaction (from my wife's perspective, if you know what I mean).

This thing is pretty interesting.

I'd imagine that would be pretty inexpensive to track. You can probably get most of the parts for that car from the Coleman catalog, and they're probably relatively inexpensive.

Ya, restoring a vintage NASCAR is not for the light of wallet.

From the pics, the stuff I see you'll need to fix for NASA, even HPDE:
add another main hoop diagonal in the proper direction
change padding to high density in the greenhouse
add a right side net - or better yet, replace the POS seat with a proper head restraint seat
fuel cell bladder and foam will need proof of < 5yrs old
cover the terminals on the cutoff switch
tow hooks front and rear - not apparent in the pics
what is the hose on the pass door bar?
does the column telescope or have a restraint to keep it off the driver?


beyond that, I'd replace every bit of original plumbing, including brake lines
then fresh tires, brake pads, valve springs and fresh fluids and you're good to go.

First understand I have no intention of restoring this car. It will be run not shown at car shows - I will be replacing things that look iffy only and then watching it closely. Second, the motor is relatively new with about 6 hours put on it over the last few years since it was installed.

I know that it will not pass race tech yet - all of the safety pieces are expired in addition to the other things. My current plans are to run occasional lapping days and time trials while I save for a trailer and the safety pieces.

Alan - that line on the passenger side is some sort of return line for the fuel system. I haven't had a chance to see where it originates in the motor bay but it ends as a small cannister/breather in the trunk by the fuel cell. Since I don't know shoo-diddly about carbed car, I will be taking some time to figure things like this out. Also, the car has tow hooks but they are hidden from view from the outside.

The steering column is a basic rod with an anchor point in the cabin and also just-prior to the first u-joint. What feature should I be looking for?

Restore or not....I don't think "cheap" will be in the equation at the end of the day...you should just be aware of that. That said, I think you can have a blast with it in the end of the day.....

Figured out the oiling system today and changed the oil. Just to correct something I said above - the line on the passenger side in the driver's compartment is a breather for the oil accumulator box, not for the fuel system. It appears that this is to vent moisture.

Keith is the front right upper shock bolt tight or is it just a spacer? Also is the upper Ball joints supposed to have that much clearance between the joint and knuckle?????

It probably has taller upper balljoints to give more camber gain or lower front roll center
