Hello all,

I am trying to buy a house and must sell some of the toys to make up the down payment.

Here are the details:

- 93 Z28 M6 camaro (Hard Top) (104k miles on chassis)
- 95 engine conversion with 70k miles on it.
- Newely rebuilt T56 (M29) tranny (because it was out and got a great deal on the rebuild, otherwise it was fine), SLP LT4 clutch, lighweight flywheel and PP. Pro 5.0 shifter /w MBA knob /w tail.
- 275/40ZR17 Yokohama AVS ES 100 tires on 10 spoke painted SS rims.
- Corbeau Forza Seats (Driver & Pass)/ No back seat installed (but I still have it)
- BMR Kmember, BMR Upper/ Adj. Lower A-Arms, BMR 2pt STB
- LGM SFC, Spohn Adj. TQ arm, Spohn Adj, PHB and LCA's (all are sperical ended/poly)
- 10bolt, T2R diff, 3.42 gears and LGM TA cover. (less then 1k miles since installation)
- Wolfe 6pt Roll bar
- Z06 Front brake conversion, powerslot rear rotors and HPS Plus pads
- Ground control coilovers /w Strano Custom valved shocks (500lb F/125lb R spring rates)
- Aluminum 1LE DS
- PCM4Less PCM tune\
- Edlebrock headers, ypipe /w Random Cat and Random Cat-back exhaust.
- No AC (but still have all parts in good working order)
- 1LE Elbow
- electric waterpump conversion
- Accel 300+ ignition kit /w taylor wires and NGK TR55 plugs.

The car passes both VA emissions and VA state inspections without any problems. I also have some additional parts that go with the car.

- 4.10 Posi rearend /w reloc brackets welded in(otherwise stock except for the gears, probably needs a rebuild)
- Leather TA door panels
- New NGK TR55 plugs and Accel 9000 wires with additional fiberglass heat boots.
- Anything else I have but forgot to mention.


There are some more mods, but thats all I can think of. The car had all parts installed at the same time and there is less then 5000 miles since all work done. The car runs great, doesn't burn any oil or fluids and is a blast to drive. I replaced the motor because the old motor was sold to my roommate to help save money for all the mods listed. Previously this car had a built motor with 200 shot of nitrous and saw 1/4 times of 10.92 @ 135 mph. Since all the work has been done I have not taken the car to the track nor have a abused it in any way (nothing but grandma driving while I break all the parts in)

I love the car and hate to get rid of it.. I have plenty of pics and the car is currently primered grey, I would be willing to pay for a paint job using (a list of) PPG paint (the buyers choice). I am asking $10,500 OBO. I have over 25k in receipts available. Must sell make a offer please.

Judging by all the reply's... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) makes me wonder if the price is too high or what. Anybody have any tips to trying to sell the car, I can provide a car fax report if requested. What else will help me sell it quicker? I think the price is more then fair.

Kevin,

Modded cars sell one of two ways (or so it seems). Really overpriced (someone "has" to have it and falls in love) or for about nothing (it's modded, so it's been beat on). This sounds like a nice car (I fear the BMR K-member though). I'd probably put a coat of paint on it (Red, Black, White, or whatever it used to be) and post a pic. That may help a whole lot. Or, even pics of it as is may help a whole lot.

Just some suggestions (from an ex car salesman).

Being as you asked ... It's WAY over priced. LS1 based F-Bods (98 and 99), with mods, are selling between 8 and 10K. Most mid-90s F-Bods are selling around $5-6K. Look at www.Z28.com in the classified section ...

Another point is this site is primarily populated with folks who already have an F-Body and compete in sanctioned events. Most of the mods you have done to the car aren't legal for most, if not all, sanctioning bodys.

This is meant to be honest feedback and not meant to piss you off. It's just the way the market is, right now, for 4th gen F-Bods. I hate for you to be committing to a house, thinking your down payment was gonna come from the sale of your car at that price.

FWIW ... cars are easier to replace than a home ...

I might be interested, but that price is way too high. Like Mitch said, modded cars really aren't worth much usually. Personally, I'd pay more for a completely stock car in good condition than I would a modded car. Issues with modded cars:
1) they've usually been run very hard, so even with lots of receipts and rebuilds, there are still lots of things that have a lot more stress/wear on them
2) you never really know exactly what's been done to the car. Sure receipts help, but the buyer can never be positive everything on the receipts matches what's on the car (especially with engine/tranny rebuilds).
3) modded cars almost never match up to exactly what a buyer wants. For instance, while I'm interested overall in your car, I would really rather find one without all the BMR stuff on it as I really don't trust their parts for roadcourse use. So realistically, if I buy your car I'll end up spending a bunch of money to rip out the BMR k-member and a-arms and replacing them with other parts.

Anyway, I'm interested, but the most I'd probably give for it is $6K depending on the overall condition. If you've got any pics email them to me we can talk some more. Also, dyno numbers would help too (rearwheel SAE corrected dynojet would be best).

Thanks for the feedback, I agree that most here probably have a F-body already, I think the price is on par because of the parts on the car, yes it was beat on before any of the parts were added, since then the car has been off the road for 5 years, I bought all the parts and installed them at one time, the only thing thats used is the chassis and the motor (from another car), everything else is new with less the 5k on it, no abuse what so ever, I have been tweaking the suspension, and taking to different shops for different things.

Now things have changed for me, and my prospective is alittle different. I have recepts for 25k easily in parts and labor (although I don't expect to make that back), I think that 10k is reasonable, but since I seem alittle off par, what would be a fair price

It may be true that a LS1 is cheaper... but thats bone stock. My car like every f-body has been subjected to abuse (including any LS1), but I would consider mine in like new condition (except for the lack of a paint job) because everything is new. I am sure I would make more parting it out, but I don't have the time nor a place to store the car during that process.

I also said I was willing to paint it any standard PPG color (I have about 40 paint swaths to choose from)

Like I said in my original post.. Make a offer, at this point my hopes arn't up to high. Anything reasonable will be considered.

Boy, it looks like you are faced with a tough decision. You'll never get what you have in that car and someday you are going to look back and wish you still had it... I don't know your situation, but from a purely financial perspective, selling this car is going to be a "hit". Even though it's probably money already spent, it's still a hit - it just won't seem as painful. Is the additional downpayment (and subsequent reduction in monthly mortgage) cost really going to offset the value of the loss? You could check this with a mortgage calculator - first punch in your anticipated loan amount assuming you have sold the car. Then punch in that amount plus your "will take" amount for the car. If this is a 30-year mortgage, you're probably in the neighborhood of $60 a month keeping the car... Granted it is for 30 years, but it's a different way to look at it.

I know that none of this is any of my business. I'm just looking at your car, what you have in it, and looking for a financial perspective where it would make sense to keep it.

Taking a hit on a car that you have a lot of money sunk into is a tough thing. My wife has a Camaro race car in the garage that we intentionally have not tallied up receipts on, and which we know we will take a massive hit on when the time comes to sell. I have tried to keep my M3 mostly stock, since I know that I will want to sell it for a good price whenever I'm ready to move on. If you can realize some return for those modifications that you've made on the car, then I'm happy for you. But for most of use it hasn't worked out that way. It's just that it is hard to find the perfect buyer. I'd say tack a big OBO onto your price and hope for the best.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your sale.
