So IRL and CART are kissing and making up - thoughts?

Too late... open wheel racing is dead in the US. It might make a come back, but it is going to take a long time and money if they want to attract the talent these days.

I'm glad it finally happened, but I hate that that arrogant bastard Tony George has "won". If it weren't for the 500, he wouldn't have.

I like the Champ Cars better - they look faster and turbos are cool.

I am for it, they never should have split. Is this for real? I heard something in the rumor mill recently on this.

agree, too little too late - and it's all Tony George's fault IMO. IIRC he wanted to create an "american" series because the cars were all (or nearly all) foreign made/designed. That's why the Aurora v8 engine was used IIRC. Now we have a spec series with....Honda engines.

I used to enjoy going to the CART races, especially in Portland. Think I went five years straight. Been to Indy twice too. But until Champ and IRL truly make up, it will be a long time before they get their fan base back. And I think they will have a hard time getting the up-and-coming drivers to look forward to a top-tier open-wheel car when they can go to NASCAR and get big paychecks for finishing 18th or worse.

IRL WINS!!!!

Must have something to do with Danika's SI Swimsuit poses winning the masses over.....throw a little sex into the mix and the average American goes all gaga on you..... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I too hate Tony George with a passion! The guy almost single handedly destroyed open wheel racing in the US. I hope and pray that they can bring it back....because the ONLY thing worse than the IRL or Tony George in US Racing is.......

.....NASCAR

Sorry guys! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

So which rules and spec engine packages are they going to use??
How can ALL of the competitors possibly be ready for this season with a rules package that was just decided on???!

They are going to be using the IRL specs / rules - the Panoz / Cosworth is dead for all intensive purposes.

The IRL is going to provide cars for all the Champ Car teams, and the current CCWS cars will probably become show cars or toys for millionaires.

I'm glad they are back too but agree it will take a while to build the fan base again. I used to love the races in the 80's/early 90's at Burkefront (airport in Cleveland) but after the break up the field was so small.

Burkefront Airport was BADASS back in CART's prime. All that space, so people would do crazy moves (cough cough Paul Tracy cough cough).

I guess I'm one of the younger guys here and I'm 27. But I've not seen any real racing other than the old open wheel stuff I randomly run across on you tube or the few car forums.
I try to watch the NASCAR road course stuff but it doesn't compare to the old stuff that I've seen with the open wheel cars. Hell, I've had a hard time seeing the WC races on speed.

Maybe things will get better for the road course in the future.

Since open wheel Champ cars are canceled as the head-liner in Houston, it is only natural that the Texas AI/CMC fill the void.
