Well, I know I'm relatively new to the site, and no one really knows me but, I figured you people could respect the new purchase.

I originally bought my 1994 Z28 A4 as an M6 candidate, seeing as A4's are boring for street use (IMO) and lack the control of an M6 at an AX event.

So a guy on my local F-Body board posted up a sale thread yesterday with a '94 Z28 M6 for $1000 obo.

Naturally I was bewildered. What could be driving the cost down so low? I called him within 5 minutes of him putting it up for sale, he said it's got the intake gasket leak and its so bad that it soaked the clutch (which was just replaced 8 months prior; for the same thing) needs tie rods and wheel bearings. So I asked what the mods are and he tells me its got pace setter coated long tubes, 3" Y, spiral flow muffler to SLP loudmouth, Lakewood poly LCA, Jegster torque arm, SLP fan switch, 160*, PCM for less tune, new rear tires. I say, you really only want $1000? He says, "yeah..."

SO... I went and looked at it today, and he showed me the title which reads "rebuild salvage" which is what I was wondering about, not a big deal. Kentucky will title anything with a "rebuild salvage title," but they wont even touch a "salvage title" as it's illegal and not road worthy at that point. The fit/finish lack a bit, but its still a complete car! Hardtop too! I think the color is Monterey Maroon Metalic?

I gave him half the money, signed the title, and had him sign a receipt and my buddy signed as a witness... I'm picking the car and title up next Monday and finalizing the sale.

So... instead of swapping my A4 to an M6 (was going to buy a complete T56 setup off someone for $1200) I'm now the new owner (almost) of another Z28!

John

I suppose... I'm kinda confused at this point as to where to go with it.

I have my '94 A4 with 110k on the clock, feels really sloppy so I was considering Koni's and making it my AutoX car, but now that I've got the M6 with 126k... I think the A4 is going on the back burner and the M6 will get Koni's.

Both cars need serious attention though, the A4 is throwing codes 32 (EGR), 42 (opti code for OBD1), and 44 (o2 sensor) , the M6 needs intake gasket and clutch.

I'm pretty excited about it regardless... pics in the link below

Sweet. If it's not straight enough, you can use it as a donor car, if it is, it's a race car/project car.

Those were my intentions going to see the car, I was thinking, well... at $1000 if I don't like it, I'll still buy it for the drivetrain and sell the body... but hell, I wouldn't mind having (2) Z28's... who would?

I think the plan will be to let my g/f drive the A4 daily if she wants to, and AutoX it in F-Stock this first year, and just drive the M6 on light street duty to hone in my skills (or lack there-of) for driving a manual since I haven't in about 3 years.

Welcome to the jungle ...

Bring it to Texas and we'll put a nice, CMC legal cage in it.

If I knew what CMC was, I could consider doing that!

I had plans originally for my A4 car to get a cage, but I think the A4 will only be on the AutoX my first year, then I'll bump up to ESP and run my M6.

There are no road courses that I'm aware of within 100 miles of me here in the Cincinnati area. Mid-Ohio is the closest I know of.

I rememeber reading about that in SuperChevy back in '03/'04 and thinking how cool it would be since the rivalry between the two has been ongoing for nearly 40 years.

Nice to finally know what CMC stands for, I never made the connection before.

Unfortunately I can't travel to play w/ cars though, no funds for that kinda stuff.

I'm actually wondering what is cheaper for '07, join SCCA and pay member rates, or just pay standard rate as a non member.... I'm still not sure how many event's I'll be able to take vacation days to go and run since my work is REALLY uptight about taking days off.

Did I read the rules right? That an '02 WS6 is not allowed to compete in either class?
It's just a damn hood for crying out loud!

Well for all that are unhappy with the restictions of CMC, there is always American Iron (http://www.americanironracing.com/) , or if that is too restictive and you have a lots of $$$ American Iron Extreem (http://www.americanironracing.com/).
Now if you like what you got and want to change nothing (exept for adding the safety stuff) there is Performance Touring (http://www.performancetouring.com/), anything goes there, you can have as little or as much modification as you want, they have a class for you! Now if you really don't even want to invest in a cage and harness either (might be unvise) you can always run Time Trial (http://www.nasa-tt.com/), it is not wheel to wheel but there is good competition. Look at it like training for qualifiing, your fastest lap counts.
There! Now, there is no excuse to get out there and race. I hate hearing, usually not from this board, enthusiast complaining about not having a place to run their car, and complains about "de-moding" their ride.

I am off topic again, so I will stop now.....

to get back on topic...

I finalized the sale yesterday, took ownership, and decided to try to drive the car...

boy was that a mistake!

coolant leak somewhere up front, buddy thinks it's the radiator, I think it's the overflow tank, either way, we're all being optimistic about it and hoping I didn't get scammed (even if I did, I still have the T56 and full exhaust which is worth well over $1000).

So... the car goes on the "chopping block" sometime soon, whenever I actually get time aside from work, and school starting tomorrow, and etc...

The biggest difference in this LT1 T56 vs. my LT1 automatic.... gears. My automatic car has 2.73, this M6 (assuming its factory) should have 3.42's and WHOA, what a difference. I mean, I realize the significance in ratio change, but... my auto car will plant me in the seat all the way through 6k RPM, the M6 just blows the tires off... and leaves a big grin on my face. By the time you've got the car and the driver ready to race, you'll understand why the rules are written the way they are.

It's a class that's trying to do a little cost containment and keep the racing close and from what I witnessed at Nationals, it does a damn good job. Besides, depending on how nice your car is, you'll probably sell it to buy/build a different car if you get that far anyway.
