How to fix this Options

bought it like this. didnt know it at the time until i stripped the interior. im sure it wont pass a track day tech as-is. the hole came in handy for the re-wiring i had to do. should i weld, or seam seal a patch in place......since there is already a hole there, is there something with a trap door in it for access, should i need to do the fuel pump or wiring again. i don't feel like welding on top of the tank. would a seam seal patch be good enough for track techs.

Piece of sheet metal, short self tappers and silicone.

Paint and done.

You could probably also just pop-rivet a panel in place. Seam sealer or silicone on the seam and over the rivets, and you should be good to go.

Either of the above will work. I wouldn't bother with paint.

I just riveted a piece of aluminum to cover it. Allows for easy access if needed. Passes NASA tech.

Use pop rivets to seal and attach at a patch - make the patch wider than the groove on each side so it will lay flat on the deck and use plenty of RTV in the grooves

USe a drill stop or a bunch of wraps of tape on the drill bit so you don't hit the tank, and don't drill above the plastic lines. I use .060" aluminum.

I'd be ok with it. This is a common modification with racers. As long as there's something of patch panel and a dent attempt at sealing it up ill pass it.i have something similar on my 4th gen.

Have done a couple of these already and I like running .060 aluminum with RTV sealing it off on top of screws. I actually used 10-24 rivet nuts with 10-24 screws, but I guess self tapping screws are sufficient.

I the the PO had it nailed....duct tape!

Eventually I plan to cut mine out and make a panel with a foam rubber gasket and rivet nuts around the perimeter. My 97 olds Aroura had that from the factory. Made life so easy when it needed to be serviced.

I used a couple strips of aluminum tape around the edges. Seals like a champ and easily removable.
