Stupid, long story that I won't get into. But, I poked a hole in my stock LS1, F-body oil pan. Need a new-to-me one. Anyone have one laying around that they don't need anymore?

Nothing as glamorous as all that.
Got the car home and it was pouring rain. Kids were asleep in the house, so I was going to push the car off the trailer. However, my driveway is sloped. The only way to get the tongue up is to disconnect the truck and jack it up. I chocked all 4 trailer wheels to prevent it from moving. Then, in anticipation of the trailer cantilevering when the car shifted to the rear, I put a jack stand under the rear of the trailer. I guess that the wheel chocks slipped a little on the wet cement. When the trailer tilted to the back, it just kept going. I figured that, since it was already down, I'd just roll the car off. But, it wouldn't budge. I look underneath the car, and I see an oil slick running down the driveway, and the jack stand stuck in the oil pan. When I jacked the trailer up, the jackstand lifted off the ground and stuck to the pan. About the only good news was that, since the cement was already wet, none of the oil stained the driveway. I was nice and pissed for a while. Not really fun to be around me that evening. |

Oh hell. That's far more creative than I was thinking. Ouch.
Look for marks on the rods and crank. Make sure you don't see any marks from the jackstand. If it landed on the crank with much force, you may find a failure in your future. I'd take a good look at everything once you get the pan off. |

I doubt that it even messed up the brand new windage tray that's in there. But, if the tray is messed up, then I'm DEFINITELY looking at the crank. |

I can't believe somebody hasn't come out with a cheap stamped steel replacement pan for ls1 cars. Seems like most of the swaps out there require an f-body pan and most people are using truck motors for the swaps.

GM has always said that the pan is a structural part of the engine and should be aligned with special tools before being attached to the block, etc. It hasn't seemed to be a problem as I know many have had pans off and just bolted them back on and Canton uses a fabricated pan design (don't they?). But I think that's part of the reason. And, who puts a steel pan on an aluminum engine? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) lol

I've said that more than a few times in the past few days. People want:
- Corvette, GTO or truck motors - LS6 or better intakes - L92 or LS6 heads - LS6 valves - LS2 throttle bodies Basically, no one ever wants crap off an F-body. Except the oil pan. Seems that these things are worth their weight in gold. So, what do I crunch? OF COURSE!!!!! |
