QUOTE The all-new Camaro will begin with early production versions at the end of 2008 and will go on sale in the first quarter of 2009. “The new Camaro will be almost identical to the concept, a thoroughly modern interpretation of the 1969 model, considered by many to be the best design of the car’s first generation,” said Ed Welburn, GM's global vice president of design, who owns a 1969 Camaro SS. The front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sport coupe will feature an independent rear suspension, and will be offered in a variety of models with the choice of manual and automatic transmissions and V-6 and V-8 engines. I hope it doesn't weigh 4K lbs and come with skinny tires. It sure is ugly as a dog though IMO. I don't think retro shows any creativity at all. I want a new looking car. |

I'm very happy it's back. While I'd rather see something more evolving, the new Camaro's been growing on me.
And yes, let's write to GM to not make it a pig (and thank 'em, too). Aria |

If you think its retro you should see the other concept they almost went with instead.
Lemme see if I can dig up the picture..... (IMG:http://www.f-body-forum.info/attachments/camaro2009_creat4.jpg) |

Oh please, dear In-Charge-Of-Production guy, please make it light and able to handle large tires. Please make a Z28 that will perform well, and please, oh PLEASE, make a 1LE version that will be a stripper and weigh 3200 pounds with manual seats/locks/windows, big brakes and sway bars, stiffer springs and adjustable shocks, with a 6 speed.
Please! Costas cars and such... |

If you think its retro you should see the other concept they almost went with instead. I don't see how it couldn't be retro. The front end, fenders, body lines, side glass etc. is all inspired by the old car. It's just not creative in my opinion. I'd be in the market for one, but I'd like to buy a car with a front end that doesn't look like it walked out of the '60's. I love the sides of the car and most of the body lines, but the front end doesn't do it for me. I think they hit the mark much better with the C6. It's new and exciting but still says Corvette. |

I really wish they'd ditch the fishmouth concept. Actually, I hate every attempt I've ever seen at a psuedo-splitter on any production car that's ever had one. A real splitter and/or dam on a real race (or race-prepped) car is another matter altogether, but the ornamental versions are just something to scrape and/or crack.

This morning they had a special announcement ceremony at GM Tech center here in Detroit. Here are some pics http://www.motownmuscle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31444
I'm sure alot of you twisty guys will be happy with the IRS but I still have mixed feelings. Whats kind of funny is the new generation Shelby mustangs/cobras have a solid axle now, while the new/next gen Camaro and Charger will be IRS. Everyone went 180 degrees from their previous platform. |

Actually most of us that AX/RR won't give IRS that warm of a welcome. The only ones that really get excited about it are the ignorant ones unfamiliar with how easily it can be screwed up. IRS does not automatically mean it will handle better. Although I expect that GM will get it right. |

I'm hoping it grows on me enough by then to consider it. Otherwise, I'll probably buy a Corvette. However, I don't want to work on a transaxle equipped Vette. So, I might buy nothing...... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/nutkick.gif)

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) Less than 3600 will be a triumph of engineering IMHO. They still gonna build it in Oz? Doubt it. The exchange rate between US and AUS has been going the wrong direction the last few years (well between US and everyone, but that's beside the point). That's one reason they couldn't get the GTO price point where they wanted it and ultimately probably why the car wasn't a sales smash. I hear that they will make a chassis variant in AUS, but the ones sold here will not be made there. |

I was at a big meet Monday and there were some GTO's there putting out some serious numbers with bolt-ons. I am thinking since they never gained much popularity, in a few years the used market on them is going to be attractive. It is a great platform putting out some decent numbers. I will never buy a new car again -ever. The numbers/depreciation factor just does NOT work. |

Less than 3600 will be a triumph of engineering IMHO. It's not so much the engineers as it is everyone else at GM tying their hands behind their backs. Andy,. I wouldn't buy one new either. I'll look for one two years old inj good shape hopefully manufactured after GM works out the first year's bugs. |

Yeah, I would definately wait a year or two before buying one. First year builds usually have some 'issues'. Not really design flaws, just things that aren't quite right. The next few years usually get a few more options too... if you're into that sort of thing. I haven't had a new car yet but the time is getting close. But I have to stop and think, do I really want my first or only new car to be something more economical (thinking G6 ) that I can afford now or do I want to wait and get something sportier.
By the time it comes out I might be ready to buy a 'vette instead, we'll see. |

These days, IRS=heavy. 3200# will be 'light', then. Too bad, just another DC copy, heavy, no tire capability, but some HP, as long as you can get past the drive-by-wire. And I was actually hoping for something. :-( Guess I'll keep the 3rd Gen. |
