Got the car back out on the track this past weekend with my latest mods. This event was a time attack here in south eastern Sicily. The video is of the warmup session. After the session I got under the car to dial in some more rear sway bar and that is when I discovered the axle side PHB mount had a nasty crack so that cut my day short. Thankfully I was able to drive home.

I did nevertheless set the fastest time of the day in that warm up session (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) To be fair, there wasn't really any competition this time.

Around the 2:05 mark I run into some nasty brake hop that is driving me nuts. I also keep screwing up turn 4 which I think would have been helped by that swaybar adjustment.

And I know that my seat is supposed to have a back brace. That's on the list of things to do.

Hey All,
I wanted to extend an invitation to come out and run with the Southern California 3rd gen club at Adams Motorsports park in Riverside CA.
For those that are unaware, Adams hosts a weekly time attack night with three 1 - 1.5 hour sessions. The normal cost is 20 dollars per session. You go out and run 3 laps and then get back in line. Normally you will get three sets of laps per 1 hour session on an average night. If you stay the whole evening that comes out to 63 dollars (you have to pay 3 dollars to enter per person). It's a great deal and a lot of fun.

So how do you improve that? You rent the track! Our club is finalizing the details on a track rental which will come out to 75 dollars per participant for 10 cars to have the track from 6 to 10 pm on Friday, August 26th. You pay a little more than 10 dollars more to get almost unlimited track time for 4 hours.

Right now we would prefer to limit the event to thirdgen cars but if we are short of participants we would gladly open that up to other generation F bodies so please don't hesitate to let us know if you are interested.

Here is a link to their website: http://www.adamsmotorsportspark.com/

I've cut and pasted the details below:

We have reserved the road course at Adams Motorsports Park for the evening of Friday August 26th, 2011 from 6-10PM for our SC3G 3rd gen exclusive Time Attack event.

Time Attack is you and your 3rd gen versus the clock. Regardless of whether it is your daily driver or a dedicated track car, this Time Attack event will allow you push yourself and your 3rd gen around AMP’s fast and technical track while a stopwatch measures your every run.

Here is your opportunity to come out and test yourself against some of SC3G’s best drivers and fastest cars in a safe and controlled environment. This Time Attack session is not a driver’s only event; passengers are not only allowed but encouraged. Riding shotgun can be every bit as exhilarating as driving at an event like this.

In the interest of maximizing each participant’s experience, we will be limiting the field to 20 cars. However, we are wide open on drivers and passengers provided everyone attends the driver/passenger orientation at the beginning of the event.

Participant slots are being offered on a first come first serve basis. Participants that pay in full are guaranteed placement on the grid for this event. Those potential participants placing a deposit only, will have a slot reserved for them, however participants that are paid in full have priority placement which means you could potentially get bumped out of the event if we have 20 participants that are paid in full. This is the only scenario in which 100% of your $40 deposit will be refunded to you.

The cost for each vehicle is $75 of which a cash payment can be made at our club meeting Sunday August 7th as well as a minimum nonrefundable* cash deposit of $40 for those participants unable to make the entire $75 commitment that day. For members paying in full, a maximum refund of $35 will be returned to you provided I am notified of your intent to cancel no later than 6PM Wednesday August 24th, 2011. Any cancellation received after 6PM Wednesday August 24th, 2011 will result in a forfeit of your $35 refund.

Additionally, if you are unable to attend our August meeting and would like to participate in our SC3G Time Attack event, payments can be made via PayPal.

Please send the following amounts to przmm74@gmail.com with ‘SC3G Time Attack’ in the notes section.

Payment in Full* - $77.55 ($75+2.9% +.30 PayPal Fee)
* Maximum refund of $35 will be returned to you provided I am notified of your intent to cancel no later than 6PM Wednesday August 24th, 2011.

Deposit* - $41.50 ($40+2.9%+.30 PayPal Fee)
*Nonrefundable unless bumped out of event due to all participants being paid in full.

Balance Due* - $36.35 ($35+2.9%+.30 PayPal Fee)
*Must be received no later than 6PM Wednesday August 24th, 2011 or your position in the field will be forfeited.

I'm trying to find some for my rear shocks. I can't seem to find a place that definitively carries them. I don't want to wait a month.

Are there any alternatives to these bump stops out there? The koni 1265 shock shaft is 14 mm and the body is about 50mm. I cut off the "hat" so getting a bump stop on there is not a concern anymore.

Hello all,
I have been lurking for some time and wanted to introduce myself. I'm an aircraft mechanic living in so cal coming from the drag racing scene. Being originally from south florida, there was essentially no attraction to good handling for me since every road in basically the whole state of florida is straight and flat.
In the past 8 years of living in California I have seen what I can only say is the death of drag racing through track closures, police harassment, etc. This in addition to the magnificent twisties around here has built an itch for me to get into the road racing/ autox scene. It didn't help when a buddy of mine was able to regularly get me a ridiculous amount of free track time at a shall be un-named go kart track. Chasing faster lap times is extremely addicting. Couple this with going for canyon runs in his gutted E36 bmw, and I was hooked.

I previously owned an 89 Firebird from 97-04. It was basically set up for drag. I was very heavy into thirdgens for that time period. That car ended up meeting it's end when I moved on to an 86 T-type which I still own. (It's run as quick as a 7.0@95 mph, 1.54 60' in the 1/8th and should be substantially quicker when I get a working transmission under it).
Even after all these years I still missed my thirdgen, so I decided to go out and buy one. After putting out some feelers, I found a 91 Z28 LB9/T5 hardtop (rear drums (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ) that was pretty rough. I managed to get it home with what felt like 75 hp. After repairing countless atrocities committed by previous owners I now have it running pretty well. Feels like stock with the "upgraded" 2 1/4" kink bent exhaust that some retard put on it. It's my daily driver now, knocked down almost 25 mpg last tank. Unfortunately it still looks like hell. I'll be painting it myself soon.

Anyway, plans for the car are to build it to either STX, STU, or ESP. I am still debating this. In the meantime here is what I have sitting on the shelf waiting for install; complete poly bushing set (will not do both lca ends in poly) MOOG 5664/5665 springs, AC delete heater box (already have the pulley installed), Koni Yellows (on backorder), lt1 ministarter, GTA crosslace wheels (will go with something else later), G.W. Tracklink (left over from the old car, still researching if the short arm is a good idea for what I am doing), 82-83 factory fiberglass z28 hood, hooker headers + 3" y pipe, T-top/vert door shim strikers.

I plan on cutting the springs half coil or so in the front which from what I understand will bump me into the low 800s spring rate wise. To help compensate for the roll center and camber curve issues this creates I'm looking into some taller ball joints (will post about this in the susp. forum). Rear springs will be cut as well. I'll probably start at 3/4 coil for those.
I would love to run a weight jack setup but I wanted to get my feet wet cheaply and quickly.

I'll probably look into some LCA RBs and a panhard relocation setup soon.

Right now I just want to get it to where I can go out and tear up some tires. As it sits, the shocks are so blown that I can induce violent wheel hop (on the front wheels!) with aggressive driving. So I'm taking it easy.

I'll also be applying some of my composites training to the car- I have some ideas (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

And yes, from what I've read, some of these mods are probably not technically legal in stx/stu but I think I can fly under the radar locally (don't snitch on me). I would mostly like to be in a challenging class. In judging from local results for ESP, there are basically no competitors in that class or F stock. STX isn't very good either but a lot better. STU has a ton of competitors.
I thrive on competition, I'd rather be dead last in STU with a bunch of other drivers than first in an ESP class with only one or two other drivers.

Anyway, sorry for the book. Check my post on the susp. forum for my ball joint q.
Here are some picts of the cars. The camaro looks slightly nicer now that I've touched up the bare metal the previous owner left from his "paint prep" job.
