I have been doing Lemons with my friends since 2009 and between all of us we have 3 cars. We are (almost) set to race at the end of this month at MSR-Houston. I wanted to extend an invitation to see if any of you guys would be interested in racing with us? We possibly need one more driver and I wanted to get some feelers out in case the guy we have now backs out.
We will be racing a convertible '91 Mazda RX7 with a 5.0/T-5 swap. This will be the third event that this car has competed in. If you are interested post up or shoot me a PM and we can discuss the details! Thanks, Daniel |

Daniel! Hey, I know you! My wife and I are on the Apex Vinyl Team (75 6-wheel Toyota HiLux). The 6-wheeler will be back for at least one more event, and we'll have the Isizu there, too. Also hope to have the Venture Van out there, too, but it just got put back together. If we can't get a shakedown before the event, it won't race.
See you there! |

Hey Gene, very cool to see you on here! I believe you did the cage on our Pontiac "Ferrari" Fiero. That is the team I usually race on. I've also raced quite a bit with the MetroSexuals in our geo metro.
Always been a fan of the van and the truck! Anyway, I'll see you out there in September! |

I think our welder guy has done some 'touchup' work on the Fiero, but am not sure. I just turn wrenches on the cars on occasion. We have a guy who is a very good welder, and has done some very nice work on a number of cars. He's even gotten some LeMons cars through tech when they needed some updates to their cages. But that's not me, I cannot weld...... yet.
There is a handful of other members on this list who LeMons race, I guess they're too ashamed to own up to it. :-) See you then. This post has been edited by CrashTestDummy: Sep 16 2012, 05:09 PM |

First time post here and the whole reason I'm here is because of LeMons. My family has always drag raced NHRA (Stock, Super Stock F-bodies). Earlier this year my mother in law bought a subscription to CAR&DRIVER. I have never been a big fan of the mag but it kept coming and I kept reading it. I saw an advertisement for the LeMons race in the back of the mag and decided that I was going to Learn2turn (our team name). Found a 94' Firebird with a non running 3.4 V6 that had been in 1 front end collision and 2 side collisions. Rebuilt the engine to its stock form, put a cage in it, corvette brakes, cut the springs and we had ourselves a "race car".
We ran the true 24hr at Buttonwillow and just last weekend ran up at Thunderhill. So far the car has had almost no problems but we cant say the same about the drivers. We are learning that staying away from black flags is the best way to do well out there! This post has been edited by Natebrod: Sep 20 2012, 10:10 PM |

Yep, if you're out there making laps, and they don't have to be fast laps (ask me how I know), you'll finish at the top of the heap every time.

We won the 2007 Flat Rock event (Team Bernies Revenge) with a white Toyota Celica-Supra (#30). That was the first time the 24 hours ran for 24 hours straight. Most events had to stop at 10pm or so and start again at 9am (or similar restrictions).
After they filled one of the frrax members tool boxes with expanding foam...that was about the last straw for Lemons and that "crap". (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Ya some of the people out there racing and some of the guys putting it on kinda rub me the wrong way too, but it seems like everyone out there is having a great time either way. Coming from NHRA drag racing its kinda refreshing to see people really just having fun out there. I like also that I can have a beer in the pits after the track has gone cold and not have to worry that the NHRA police are gonna accuse me of being drunk on the track the next day. I guess my racing experience is a bit jaded from all the yuppies in the NHRA pits.

This thread pretty much sums up the issues with Lemons (saves me retyping it).

I did one event this year at Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) back in March. There was an event this weekend there, but I couldn't make it.

Usually, though, asshattery like that usually lets them enjoy some time in the penalty area. |

Me and a few friends are thinking of getting a car for Lemons/Chump Car racing. What are the requirements for drivers? As in what experience do you need to be a qualified driver? One guy used to have an SCCA license, I'm an hpde'er, and the others sadly have no track experience at all!

Generally you "buy" a "NASCAR" license at the event for $50 or something like that and "you be a race car driver". (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Neither my wife, nor I had turned a wheel on a race circuit, other than solo I and II events at racetracks before getting behind the wheel of our team's cars. At least Barbara's first stint behind the wheel was at the start of the race, and she got 15-20 minutes lapping under caution. My first stint, ever, was under green mid-way through day one of the first race we attended. We definitely had company in that club. |

We ran two vehicles in our team at the last MSR Houston event, the 91 Isuzu Impulse and the 75 1 ton HiLux 6-wheel truck. The car finished in class B in like 4th in class and 24, or something overall.
The truck was a contender for a class C win, in fact before the last full-course black flag (Datsun Z lost a wheel/hit a wall/slid out into a pond in the middle of the infield, not necessarily in that order). After sitting for about 45 minutes on pit row, the truck wouldn't start. It looks like it suffered from a flooding condition and it appears the points may have slipped. We lost a 4 lap lead and lost 1st in class by 1/2 a lap, garnering the truck the 'I Got Screwed' trophy. Some info here: http://forums.24hoursoflemons.com/viewtopic.php?id=18597 Photo Gallery here: http://www.murileemartin.com/UG/LTXF12/LTXF12.html Saturday summary here: http://blog.caranddriver.com/lemons-texas-...ev-makes-debut/ The rusty yellow RX2 was ahead of the truck by a lap before it rolled after a bump-draft by a 2nd Gen Camaro 'convertible'. Event summary here: http://blog.caranddriver.com/24-hours-of-l...ma-the-winners/ Blue 6-wheel truck with the wing is ours. |

Same here. It seemed that if we were at the track, we were busy with racing or support. We saw your RX7 out making laps (and passing us), too.
