Some ass tried to steal my truck - crowbared the pass door handle assy to get access to the key unlock linkage, got the door open without setting off the OEM alarm.

He used a vice grip on the ignition switch, forced it to the run/start position without a key. Security camera video shows the lights coming on and flickering like he got the starter to engage but it it didn't start. He gave up after about 10min.

State Farm wrote me a nice check (0 ded comp), mostly for cosmetic damage to the door, and I'm a car guy so figured I'd fix it myself - I got a new ignition lock cylinder and door handle assy for about $60.

It will crank and start but die immediately. Fuel pressure is good, looks like the OEM security system is killing the ignition. I've cleaned up the original lock cylinder and tried it with the same results. I've disconnected the battery for a while and retried with no change.

There is a small switch on the lock housing that looks like the actuator end got sheared off - I extricated the switch from the housing and if I press the stub of the switch I get the door open chime. I've tried pressing it while starting - no change.

Need to tow a car to Sonoma tomorrow, I'm willing to bypass whatever I need to get this thing running.

Do anyone have a suggestion what to try next, and/or a link to a wiring diagram?

2002 Silverado LS 6L gas 2wd it has the OEM Passlock security system (no resistor in the key like the Fbod)

Forgot to note that it has the auto trans. I just scanned it and there are no error codes. Cleared them anyway, no change. With the key on, the dash display flashes SECURITY 5 times

Man I'm really sorry. I hate stupid people.

Seems like a pretty common problem. Check out this thread if you haven't already.

Check out posts 14, 17 and 20. I didn't read past that.

Seems unlikely that it'd be an issues unrelated to what your buddy did to your truck, but at the same time it he got in without setting off the security, maybe it's just one hell of a coincidence?

Success!

The interwebs are full of 'how to bypass GM security' and one of the items is bypassing the passlock sensor with a resistor- it has a connector with 3 small wires in the top of the switch housing. The ass pulled the individual wires out of the connector block, and then plugged them back in in the wrong order. I reordered the wires in the connector, left the battery disconnected for an hr, hooked it back up and it started right up.

Thanks for the link Steve, I was about to do the relearn when I realized the wires didn't look right.

Some usefull links:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dtse8cUpi_c how to replace the key lock cylinder. At :44 you can see the connector/wires that were messed up.

Sounds like you need a .44 for the asswipe who tried to jack your truck! Hopefully, the gene-pool self-cleans. We've had two vehicles broken into. The level of violation is indescribable. Hopefully the scum at the level of the scum that tried to steal your truck will bust a cap in the ass of the perp, and it eventually bleeds out. Fscking scum!!

Hopefully you got it fixed. I imagine the vice grips on the column did in important parts of the security system.

Did the door handle assembly include the key cylinder? I had a similar problem but the perp only wanted the truck contents. Golf Clubs, Cameras, etc. Stupid of my to keep that stuff in the truck overnite outside.

He boogered my drivers side key cylinder but I have been using the remote unlock and that is finally going after 17 years and 250,000 miles. You have given me the idea that I might be able to just replace that assembly and be good to go.

Let us know how you got the truck started.

Hi Perry - Once I fixed the wires in that small connector, it fired right up. I cleaned up the metal shards from the mangled ign lock cylinder and it is working normally, just looks bad. I bought a replacement but it would use a different key than the entry locks and my keychain already has too much on it. There's a process for recoding the new cylinder to the old key but I haven't tried it.

The door handle replacement is a Dorman part (pn77262 for pass side on a 2002 regular cab) from Rockauto - it does not have a new entry lock cylinder, have to reuse my original, it clips into the handle housing. I'm sure there are replacements available, dunno if they can be rekeyed.

My key fobs quit working years ago, as I recall I tried fresh batteries and they still wouldn't work. I think my truck has a Friday wiring harness - something wore thru in the first month or so from new, and the fuel pump died - that was fixed under warranty. Then the heater blower low speeds quit working, fobs quit, now the fuel gauge has become intermittent. Still runs great at 260Kmi so I'll keep it.
