I saw a Mallet Solstice at the local autox yesterday. He was not running, but I think he wants to. I think that could make one hell of an SM2 car. The LS2 seemed to fit very well and didn't look out of place in the car at all. He said they now have an LS7 option and they have an option for a T56 instead of the Solstice 5 speed. If I only had money.

For auto-x, the 5 speed might be better, depending on the ratios (as long as it isn't the GXP trans). The T-56 is heavy...

That's cool and all, but WHICH SM2 legal tire would be able to hold that thing on the course (especially the LS7 version)??! Corner exits would have to be driven as if Robin's eggs were under the accelerator!!

Traction control is SM legal.

Apparently it's SP legal, too. Howdy,

I thought they redid the SP wording to disallow TC?

The Solstices can run pretty big rubber stock... I think the AS car my wife runs was running 285's earlier this year without rubbing issues before they dropped back to 275's (?? I think.)

Sam said it'll be reworded for next year, but remains legal now.

Big flares and offset wheels and I can get a 335 on all 4 corners. All I need is a sawsall, and the willingness to cut one up.

I somehow remember reading that once the V8 is swapped into the Solstice it weighs as much if not more than the Vette'...google time!

That's what I remember too. I don't think it was any cheaper either. So my question is what's the point? Unless some how you are able to autox it in a lesser class. Weight distribution is killed, and you're never be as refined as the vette.

It's still smaller than the 'vette which would be an advantage in AX. And yes it weighs about 3150 lbs. balance is still very good though. I've heard as good as 51f/49r with the V8 and as bad as 53f/47r.

It won't be competitive in SM2 at 3000+ pounds. The challenge in building an SM car is putting one together that meets minimum weight, can fit the widest tires allowed (275s, I believe), has good suspension geometry and can make usable power. Turbocharging the NA 2.4 Solstice and putting it on a serious diet would be the way to compete. The Mallett car would make for a fun trackday rat, though. There is no tire size limit in SM or SM2. Minimum weight at 6.0 displacemnt is 2850 I think. Shaving a couple hundred pounds might be doable.

Hot Rod got their solstice down to 2880 with the LS7. Looked like a fun ride.
