I helped a local group of kids (anyone under 30 is a kid to me) prep a car for the Lemons race. I was concerned about putting 80 anxious newbies with store bought racing licenses on a 1mi track so made sure the car had the right safety stuff given a very limited budget.

I fretted about them all weekend, but they got thru just fine - finished 416 laps for 44th of 83 starters, got hit twice and lost a couple of hrs repairing the car. The team captain Bryan McQueen had the 9th fastest lap - close to 70mph avg so top speeds on the oval ends were higher than we expected.

They say they are hooked now - want more racing. I guess they'll all be needing race cars ;-)

We're running the Michigan one soon. We've got a 1986 Toyota Celica Supra that's being prepped as we speak. I've decided to just crew chief and handle towing duties since I've spent so much money building the 3rd gen in the last month or so, but we're going to be there.

This one was mostly straight, but the lights and some other things didn't work. It's nearly too nice to race, but it's not really street car material either. We picked it up from one of the guys neighbors who's going to Iraq. He was going to junk it if he couldn't sell it, so we bought it for $250. We're hoping to keep it nice enough to keep as a track car when we're done. We don't know if that's likely, but it's the plan.

It's a 1985, actually. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Now, how in the heck did you guys get a clean 944 purchased and prepped for under $500?! We thought we'd hit the lottery with our $250 Supra, and it's got a serious case of Ohiorust™ in quite a few spots. That Porsche looks fantastic by Lemons standards.
