I just stumbled across a 24ft enclosed haulmark trailer for $2000. It's a 1990 model with a side door and dropgate/ramp in the rear. The guy says it needs a new hinge on the side door and that there's a small leak in the roof that needs to be fixed, but other than that it's in good shape.

I eventually planned on upgrading to an enclosed trailer from my open trailer, but this seems like it might be a good reason to do it sooner rather than later.

I haven't really priced these used but is this a really good deal?

Howdy,

You probably won't find one for less, so in that sense its a good deal.

But look it over pretty carefully to see if you'll end up spending more money fixing stuff up than makes sense. I think you can get a bare bones 24' enclosed brand new in the $4k to $5k region. Add 110vac wiring, atp floor, cabinets, etc. and the prices will quickly go north of $8k.

Crawl under the thing and get a good look at it. Check out the brakes/hubs/tires to see if they'll need work. Make sure there's brakes on both axles. How's the wiring? Is the trailer a budget basic model, or does it come with creature comforts like better walls/floors/cabinets?

Mark,
That's all good advice. I talked to my neighbor who used to work at a trailer place and that's pretty much the same stuff he told me. He said to watch out for rust in the frame and check the plywood in the floor for rotting. I may go check it out after I see some pictures, but I'll probably lowball the guy to see what he says if I decide I'm interested.
