I was driving by a dealer yesterday and they had a 2000 Ram Air with 43k miles, manual tranny. Asking price 14,800.

Looked fairly nice and clean underneath.

I did not drive it or sit in it...didnt have time.

Assuming this is in as good of condition as the mileage might indicate, what is this baby worth?

Any "gothchas" to look for on the 2000?

TIA

Bock

2000's had a specific exhaust (manifolds/y-pipe). They did not have the LS6 intake and they did have EGR. None of these are deal breakers though, just specifics of that model year.

For reference, I sold my 2002 Z28 last year in April for $12,500 with a Pro 5.0 shifter and 88k miles on it. It was loaded, leather and all. For a WS6 car with half the mileage, even though it's two years older, I'd say that'd probably decent. And, since you can probably get them down 1,500 on it if you push, it might be a great deal. I've not looked at book value on one of those yet, but if it doesn't show anything crazy (like $8,800 or something), I'd say it's a decent deal.

One other note with the 2000s (same as my car, so I know these obscure little details). The 00s have a slightly more aggressive cam than any other LS1 F-body. That was the year they bumped up the HP claims, and they did it via a larger cam. Then, in 01 they modified the exhaust a (and started using LS6 intakes). To counterbalance that increase in flow, they made the cams smaller.

The exact numbers are at home in my "How to Build a Small Block Chevrolet LS1/6". They aren't that different, but it's gotta be worth something.

I have '00 Ram Air six speed WS6 with 105K "gentle street" (Wife drove it 4 years) miles on it. I'm looking into selling it, and I wouldn't take less than 13,500 for it, it has Koni's and Kuhmo's on it and set up for AutoX now.

I'm not saying anyone in here is wrong, but the prices for LS1 f-bodies are stupid. I can't believe people would pay that much. Maybe I'm just cheap. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

The prices seem a little high to me too but:

1) I have an LS1 f-body, so STFU! :-0

2) I'm a bit of a cheap bastard.

I have one too, but I didn't pay anywhere need $14K for it either. Like I said, I can't blame anyone for selling their car for that much, but even the most expensive WS6 was only $30K new, and retaining 50% of a car's value 8 years after the fact is, well, unheard of.

I sold my 2000 WS6 in April with 35,000 miles and got $18,000 for it.i guess it all comes down to what you want and what you can afford.

I think there's "market value" and "enthusiast's value." There are people whose asking price is way over the typical market value, but there's no fault in that because they will still find people who will pay that much.

Example: Ron Bistrais' old '97 1LE went for around $10K on eBay, and it's "just" an LT1, but someone could have bought it from Ron for $7K!

It's just a matter of finding the right car at the right time. People who are going to race or track an F-Body don't necessarily need a low mileage garage queen and will hold out to find a car that is being sold for the typical market value and not an "enthusast's value."

I sold my old street Sentra SE-R about five years ago for $5,000, and I thought my asking price was too high ("market value" was maybe $3K at the time but had a few go-fast parts on it), but I had people practically beating my door down for it!

I don't know if I think that the prices are that bad. After all, I cannot think of a single other car that (in stock or extremely mildly modified form) can satisfy all of the following:

1) Carry 4 people
2) Still turn heads at stop lights though it's >5 years old
3) Run 12's at the strip
4) Stick with stock C5 Vettes on a road course
5) Make 400hp with only bolt ons
6) Carry all of the supplies for an autox, compete in that autox competitively, and then drive home
7) Be worked on and fixed by almost anyone with a ratchet and 7, 10, 13, and 15mm sockets
8) Recoup all purchase costs if parting out to make a race car
9) Be both a sleeper (discounted by guys with "real" racecars) and a favorite (when you've beat the "real" race cars)
10) Be able to run in at least 8 competitive amateur road race classes (CMC, CMC2, AI, AIX, T2, GT1, AS, ITE and I'm sure I missed a couple)

I think some of the V6 cars are still eligible for SSB. It used to be eligibility was only for 5 years but SCCA changed it to ... 10 maybe?

There was a V6 Camaro in SSB in this year's Runoffs. Didn't do well (at least, it wasn't ever featured in any camera shots). But, I did pause it and verify that it was a Camaro.
