Have a good run, Boyce!
I've got a local customer that will be a first time navigator in a Viper - I think in 140 |

Have a good run, Boyce! I've got a local customer that will be a first time navigator in a Viper - I think in 140 The Vipers have been having a tough year this year Alan. Thier motors arent liking the extended RPM and like to 'splode. Jerry Mahl (owner of K&N) put his on its lid shortly after blowing the #4 rod and piston through block and oiling down the road. The other one decided to turn itself into a rolling fireball. |

Dang gotta make the B100 one of these first years; afterall, it's in my own back yard. Just barely got my car back on the road, so didn't make it this year.
Boyce, did you drive your car this year or slum someone else's again? Did you hit 200 mph? |

I was co-driving for Jeff this year. Plan was he would drive the south bound leg and I would drive the north bound leg. During practice I was hitting 170+ through the corners and down the trap I was at 180 (my tech for practice). The car was running better than it had in years, power all over the place, glued to the road, did what you told it to do, etc.
On race day we head out and the car is runing like a scalded dog. Oil temp was running a bit higher than normal but still acceptable. Jeff was on the money through the technical section and went through it about considerably faster than he normally does. On the left hand sweeper into the speed trap I had Jeff stuff his foot in it. We were at 205mph and accellerating when the gauges started acting up. Oil temp started climbing, oil pressure was all over the place then you could hear the motor winding down even though Jeff was flat footed. We blasted through the trap at 200.4 mph with the motor winding down and then it happened. Oil temp gauge shot all the way around, oil pressure went to 0psi, water temp went through the roof. I signaled Jeff to kill the motor and we coasted for a couple of miles looking for a good place to pull over. as soon as we stopped the radiator popped its lid and hosed me right when I opened the door to get out. We were picked up by the emergency crew and brought back to the speed trap. The cool thing was that my girlfriend got to navigate for Richard Hille in the black camaro. I was able to stand about 40ft off the road as she went by at 212mph. I have seen video of 200mph drive by's, been in the car at over 200mph, but nothing compares to standing on the side of the road and watching a car go by that close, that fast. It really put things into perspective about how fast we are really going out there. |

Wow sounds like some exciting ORR action! But too bad about Jeff's Vette. Have you guys found out what happened to the motor yet? What year is his Vette? How much rwhp would you estimate it is making to break 200 mph?
Sorry to hear your Camaro has been off line so long. Mine set for a solid year, and just got it back on the road a week ago. It' great to hear (and feel) that old rumble again. |
